    Kent Fire and Rescue Service is urging people not to drive through flood water as it may be deeper than you think.

    A family of three had to be rescued from their car after it got stuck in this flood water in Sutton Valence, near Maidstone.

    Fire crews used specialist water rescue equipment to move the vehicle.

  3. Man dies after being swept out to seapublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    A man has died after being washed off a harbour wall in Ramsgate as strong winds and heavy rain battered the South East.

    Coastguards were called after three people fell into the sea off Ramsgate just before 10:30 BST.

    Margate Coastguard Rescue Team and the Ramsgate RNLI lifeboats went to the scene, along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Police.

    Three men were rescued from the water, but one was later pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken to hospital for treatment.

    The death is not being treated as suspicious, said Kent Police.

    People who use the cab-booking app Uber have had their accounts hacked and their details sold online, according to a BBC South East investigation.

    Almost 20 beach huts have been destroyed in a fire overnight at Holywell, Eastbourne Borough Council said.

    The tenants of the destroyed huts have been informed.

    The 19 blue and white, council-owned fibreglass huts were in high demand, a council spokesman said.

    He said: "The council is working towards replacing the huts as soon as possible, so they can continue to be used throughout the summer season."

    A kite surfer, who was reported to be in difficulty off the coast of Ramsgate, has made his way back to shore safely.

    Earlier three people were rescued from the sea off the Thanet coastal town after apparently being swept off the pier in stormy weather in a separate incident.

    An air ambulance assisted with that rescue.

    Southeastern says the line between Maidstone Barracks and Maidstone West is currently blocked in both direction because of flooding.

    The firm will run replacement buses between Maidstone and Strood.

  14. People rescued from cars in flood waterpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    Firefighters had to rescue two people in separate cars after they broke down in knee-high flood water.

    Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Minnis Lane in Dover at 14:11 BST.

    There was also a fallen tree blocking the road.

    Crews moved the tree and moved the cars out of the water as a breakdown recovery was called.

    Two adults and a baby stuck were rescued from a car which was stuck in flood water.

    Two fire engines and a water safety unit from Kent Fire and Rescue were called to Stickfast Lane in Sutton Valence at 13:30 BST.

    Crews used water rescue equipment to get the family to dry land.

    They also helped to move the car out of the water.

    Meanwhile, due to the severe weather conditions, the main entrance to Mote Park, off Mote Avenue in Maidstone, is flooded.

    As a result Maidstone Borough Council has temporarily closed the entrance.

    A teenager who's been missing from home in London since last Wednesday is believed to be in Bognor.

    Idris Ahmed was last seen in London Road in the town at about 16:00 BST on 25 April.

    Police are worried about the 16-year-old and they're asking anyone who knows where he is to get in touch.
