It's not often you hear about an airline going beyond the call of duty, but one pilot aborted take-off at Manchester Airport to allow an elderly couple off the plane to visit their dying grandson in hospital.

The pair were due to fly to Australia when they received a text message about their relative's condition.

The flight then turned around so the couple could rush to his bedside and see him before he died that night.
