    Comedian and political activist Mark Thomas grew up in South London, but was a student at Bretton Hall College in Wakefield during the Miners' Strike of 1984-1985. 

    Now, he's back in West Yorkshire to find a group of primary school pupils who sang as the miners marched back to work - a very emotive memory for him.

  3. Hundreds of suspected dangerous dogs seized in West Yorkshire since 2013published at 09:08 British Summer Time 13 April 2016

    A total of 450 suspected dangerous dogs have been seized in West Yorkshire in the last three years, the BBC has discovered following a series of Freedom of Information requests.

    The RSPCA wants the Dangerous Dogs Act to be changed so dogs are banned on the basis of behaviour not breed.

    The government says the current law protects the public.

  5. Leeds climbers attempt Dhaulagiri ascent without oxygenpublished at 08:37 British Summer Time 13 April 2016

    Climbers are attempting to scale one of the world's highest mountains without oxygen for a study assessing the effects of altitude.

    The Leeds Beckett University scientists will monitor the ascent of the Himalayan Dhaulagiri peak via a chip implanted in each member's body.

    Its summit is at 8,167m (26,794t). Beyond 8,000m (26,246ft) climbers enter the oxygen-starved realm known as the "death zone".
