    James Vincent
    Reporter BBC Look North

There's been an angry response on social media to plans to limit speeds to 60mph on parts of the M1 through South Yorkshire as highway bosses try to curb air pollution.

The idea has attracted a lot of comment on BBC Radio Sheffield's Facebook page:

    Quote Message

Absolute nonsense. It's normally 60 during rush hour anyway so it's no difference, just don't dress it up as good for the environment. Get people onto public transport instead, make the fares for planes, trains and buses cheaper. THAT will reduce pollution."

    Craig Shapcott

    Quote Message

Buy diesel cars they said as they are more fuel efficient and less polluting. So we did. Then we realised we have been conned and ripped off. Now we are being told to slow down to reduce pollution. What about all the industry around there?"

    Simon Walsh

    Quote Message

The only reason highway bosses want to reduce the speed to 60mph is they never meet targets of 70mph. Waste of tax payers money it will cost millions to just change signage."

    Peter Lloyd

    Quote Message

I use the M1 twice a day and it would be nice to get up to 60mph. I have been using jct 35 to 31 for over 6 years and honestly don't ever remember them being no roadworks it's madness."
