Mr Palin's been given a lifetime achievement award at the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards in London.

He's called it a "great honour."

Patients in Doncaster have been left without a GP due to inadequate out-of hours services, according to an investigation by a health magazine.

Freedom of Information data obtained by Pulse show nurses and paramedics had to cover a population of 300,000 patients on three occasions.

Police are searching for a man who is wanted in connection with a burglary at the home of an elderly man with dementia in Leeds.

A man called at the home of the victim and convinced him he owed him money before being given an amount of cash.

The incident happened in Westfield Lane, Kippax, on 8 November last year.

Roger Dodds was jailed earlier for 16 years after pleading guilty to four counts of indecent assault.

A bid to give families greater control over the affairs of missing people has cleared a major hurdle in the Commons. 

Tory MP Kevin Hollinrake is leading efforts to introduce "Claudia's Law" in memory of Claudia Lawrence, who disappeared on her way to work at the University of York in March 2009.

Mr Hollinrake brought forward draft legislation called the Guardianship (Missing Persons) Bill.

Peter Lawrence, Claudia's father, was told he was unable to manage the financial affairs of his daughter. 

Mr Hollinrake's Bill received an unopposed second reading in the Commons and it will now proceed to committee stage.

A support centre for refugees in Armley could close because of lack of funding.

The Meeting Point was set up by Christ Church in 2003 to help the large numbers of refugees and asylum seekers who were moving into the parish but were feeling isolated. 

Staff at the centre say they helped almost 300 people last year, providing hot food, clothing, food parcels and English classes.

But now the project is facing a serious funding crisis and possible closure:

The average full-time worker in the Yorkshire and Humber region now needs a staggering pay rise of 64% just to afford a mortgage on a typical home in the region.

That's according to a new report from the National Housing Federation, external which states that those people earning less than £39,811 a year are now priced out of buying the average home in the area.

Despite regional house prices being lower than the national average, the combination of low wages, an above-average unemployment rate and job insecurity is resulting in an acute housing crisis in the area.

The average home in the area costs £174,171 – over seven times the average yearly income of £24,284.

The report also mentions the shortfall of new homes in recent years as a factor. Between 2011 and 2015, there were over 37,000 too few homes built across the region to keep up with demand.

Bradford City fans are anticipating a rush of goals from their new striker, Charlie Wyke.

Wyke scored 18 goals for Carlisle United this season before moving to City this week for an undisclosed fee.

Overall, he scored 32 league goals in 77 league games for the Cumbrians.  

Wyke, 24, started his career at hometown club Middlesbrough but never made an appearance for the Teessiders, going out on loan several times before signing permanently for Carlisle in 2015.
