Gateways get a spruce up in Halifaxpublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2017
It's hard to get sentimental over a pair of gates, but these giant cast-iron ones at Halifax Borough Market have been used to secure the site for more than 120 years.
The eight sets of gates are becoming more difficult to move, as the hinges have become worn, so Calderdale Council have taken them down to do a bit of work on them.
Once removed, each gate will be cleaned back to bare metal before repairs are made using traditional techniques. The gates will then be repainted using a colour scheme agreed with Historic England.
