    A drug-driver found to be eight times the legal limit has been banned from driving for two years.

    Daniel Johnson, 24, appeared at Scarborough Magistrates Court charged with drug driving and failing to provide a specimen.

    He was stopped on New Year's Eve 2016 and a roadside test proved positive for cannabis. It was later found that he had 16ug per 100ml of blood – the legal limit is 2ug per 100ml.

    He was stopped on 12 February 2017 in Pickering on suspicion of the same offence. 

    Another roadside test returned a positive result for cannabis but he refused a blood test.

    Johnson, of West Park Terrace, Scarborough was banned from driving for two years, fined £500 in total and £105 in associated charges.

    Cole had mentioned to his dad that he wanted to take some night time shots, and when they drove around the city centre they noticed the building site was lit up to allow demolition workers to continue after dark.

    Cole used a tripod and an eight-second exposure to capture these incredibly filmic shots.

    A 17-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital after being found collapsed in the centre of Easingwold, North Yorkshire, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

    Emergency crews were called at about 04:00 after the teenager was found outside the George Hotel in the town's Market Place.

    Anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding the girl's collapse is being asked to contact police.

    A free breakfast club's been launched at a York school this morning after research carried out there found some pupils were arriving with empty stomachs - affecting their readiness to learn.

    Hob Moor school in Acomb has worked with the charity Magic Breakfast to ensure every child is offered a healthy breakfast at the start of the school day.

    A team from York's Grand Hotel and Spa have helped out this morning.   

    Craig Atchinson, head chef at the hotel, says they hope to raise more awareness around York to encourage people to support the cause and generate more funding.

    You may think "The One And Only" is rather apt for one-hit wonder Chesney Hawkes.

    But it may surprise you that LA-based Chesney has built up a solid career for himself in the 25 years since his massive No. 1 hit.

    A new display celebrating the achievements of Yorkshire cricketing star Dickie Bird will officially open at Experience Barnsley today.

    A 15-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to the murder of seven-year-old Katie Rough in York last month.

    Katie was found with serious injuries on a playing field in Woodthorpe on 9 January and died later in hospital.  

    Her funeral was held earlier this week at York Minster, led by the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu.

    West Yorkshire police are making a fresh effort to solve a murder committed 13 years ago.

    John Luper, 57, was killed during a raid on his home in Alwoodley, Leeds, in February 2004.  

    Mr Luper was found the next day by his wife and daughter who managed to escape after being tied up by masked men. The thieves took £100,000 worth of jewellery and cash. 

    Today, West Yorkshire police says the case will be taken on by the Major Investigation Review Team, which will trawl through all the evidence again.

    A man has been charged with three counts of rape in York, external.

    The 25-year-old was arrested in August last year, although North Yorkshire Police said the three counts of rape all date back to 2014.

    Some South Yorkshire businesses have been named and shamed for underpaying their workers.

    A scheme was set up by the government in 2013 to highlight employers who don't comply with minimum wage rules.

    This year's list includes, external Wilfreda Beehive in Doncaster, which failed to pay more than £800 to three employees. 

    Also on the list is Barlborough Parish Council's management committee, which failed to pay more than £2,000 to one worker.

  11. 'Northern Powerhouse' conference fails gender balance testpublished at 09:24

    The head of Doncaster Council says she's boycotting a big "Northern Powerhouse" event next week because there aren't enough women speakers.

    Only one in seven of the Manchester conference's speakers is female, and several panel discussions feature no women at all.

    Jo Miller, chief executive of Doncaster Council, says she's now organising her own event in May. 

    The people behind the conference in Manchester, external accept that women are under-represented this year and say they are determined it won't happen again.

    A musical show about events putting Bradford in the news is touring the city's schools this week.

    Bradford: The Musical was created by a group of school pupils from across the district and covers events like the Bradford Riots and the Bradford City Fire. 

    It's touring around the district in the hope of recruiting more young people to join the cast and create a larger scale performance for BBC Music Day in June.

  14. Russian museum's homage to North Yorkshire vetpublished at 08:31

    The work of North Yorkshire vet James Herriot, as featured in the TV series All Creatures Great and Small, is being celebrated in a new exhibition - in Russia.

    The State Darwin Museum in Moscow is honouring Herriot, whose exploits were written about by real-life vet Alf Wight.

    Wight's books and the TV series about his veterinary work continue to be popular in Russia where he also has a fan club.

    Staff at the World of James Herriot Museum in Thirsk have travelled Russia to meet museum officials and fans.

    A Sheffield MP says the government's taken no action to criminalise adults who send inappropriate texts to children, even though a law was passed nearly two years ago. 

    The Serious Crime Act makes sexual messages between an adult and a child a crime, with a jail term of up to two years. 

    But Louise Haigh, the Labour MP for Sheffield Heeley, who's also shadow minister for the digital economy, says nothing's changed:

    A few problems are currently being reported on Yorkshire's roads:

    • There's queuing traffic and long delays on the A635 Doncaster Road in both directions at B6411 Lidget Lane due to accident
    • There are severe delays, one lane is closed and there's queuing traffic due to an accident on the M62 Westbound between J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) and J21 A640 (Milnrow), with congestion on the M62 to J23 A640 / A643 (Huddersfield)
    • There are also reports of an accident on the M62 Westbound before J24 A629 (Ainley Top)

    The funeral of 16-year-old Irfan Wahid, who was stabbed to death in the Harehills area of Leeds last week, is due to take place this lunchtime.

    Another teenager has been arrested and charged with his murder. 

    Following the funeral, a community vigil will take place at the Bilal Mosque.

    The vigil will be attended by Ch Insp Ian Croft, head of neighbourhood policing in East Leeds, who says it's important the family and local residents know they have police support:

    A new £5m sports facility in Leeds will be named after after city Olympic heroes the Brownlee brothers, Leeds University has revealed.

    The Brownlee Centre is due to open in April and will sits alongside a new mile-long cycle circuit - one of the longest in the country, according to the university. 

    The centre will also be the UK’s first purpose-built triathlon training base and will provide the first permanent home for the Leeds Triathlon Centre.
