Good news if you live in Bradford and want to recycle more: from next Tuesday you can.

Up to now residents have only been able to put paper, card, glass and plastic bottles into their recycling bins, but now they can also add plastic food trays, yoghurt pots, margarine and butter tubs, drink cartons and tetrapacks.

Hooray! Now you can drink all the orange juice you like AND save the planet. All the recycling can now go into one bin (the grey one) while general waste will still go into the green bin. 

And now you won't need to spend ages separating paper anymore. It can go in with all the rest of the recycling.

More on today's news that US firm Boeing has announced plans to open its first European commercial factory in South Yorkshire , creating at least 30 jobs.

President of Boeing Europe, Sir Michael Arthur, said they chose Catcliffe in Rotherham for the £20m factory because of a skilled workforce in the area and the firm's links with Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.

He said: "The area has very high skills, particular in advanced manufacturing technology, which we think is world class."

"We, as a company, want to start making these very sophisticated components - actuation systems, the gearing systems on wings, and Sheffield is a good place to come," he added.

The factory, which will produce actuators for 737, 737 MAX and 777 aircraft, will be next to the AMRC centre.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was slashed with a knife on White Lea Road in Doncaster on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old man was approaching the junction of Wath Road in the Mexborough area at about 23:30 when he was attacked by four men.

He needed hospital treatment, but his injury isn't thought to be life-threatening.

Just over a year on from the York floods , a project launched today aims to document memories of the deluge.

Staff at the Jorvik Viking Centre, which was itself badly affected by flooding, want residents to bring along the treasured possessions they saved from rising flood waters. 

The items will be photographed for the Waterproof Memories project, and people will be invited the story of that object as part of an audio recording which may form part of a community exhibition.

A documentary celebrating Leeds' starring role in the history of film is due to get an exclusive screening in the city this weekend.

The First Film was put together by Leeds-born and educated filmmaker David Nicholas Wilkinson, who spent 33 years trying to bring the documentary to the cinema .

His aim was to prove once and for all that the world's first film was shot in Leeds by Louis Le Prince.

Mr Nicholas says: "It took me 33 years to get this film to the big screen, and for years literally hundreds of people did not believe the story.

"But Leeds, as I show in the film, was possibly the world's most innovative city in many areas in the 1800s.

"I have now proven the truth: the world’s very first film was made on 14 October 1888 by a Frenchman in Leeds."

This is the area of moorland near Todmoden where Yorkshire Water is planning to plant 200,000 trees in the hope of preventing future flooding.

The idea is to slow the flow of water and protect Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd - which were all badly affected by flooding in 2015.

The name of a planned new £2bn potash mine near Whitby has been officially revealed.

The mine will called the Woodsmith Mine, and is named after geologists Peter Woods and Dr Frederick Smith. 

Unveiling the mine's name, Northern Powerhouse minister Andrew Percy said it was a real vote of confidence in the economic potential of the region.

The plans include building a minehead at Dove's Nest Farm, Sneaton, with shafts 4,921ft deep.

The minerals will then be transported 23 miles underground to Wilton International, external  near Redcar.

Work on building the mine is expected to start in the summer.

A taxi driver has been left with a facial injury after he was assaulted by a gang of youths in Halifax.

The gang had been throwing stones at his car on Ovenden Way, and when the driver got out to confront them they began to punch and kick him.

He suffered a large gash above his eye in the attack, which took place on Wednesday. His car was left with a cracked windscreen. 

Police have appealed to drivers and other taxi owners to check their dash-cams for any footage of the attack.

The brown leather document holder and rose gold pocket watch were taken from a house in Broughton Road, Bessacarr, sometime last night.

The owner of the house woke up to find someone had broken in the back doors.

A flood warning's currently in place for the River Ouse, external .

It's at Naburn Lock, and is because of rising river levels caused by rainfall over the last few days. 

A flood warning means flooding is expected - and immediate action is required.

A man has been jailed for 10 years after he ran into and killed a "a respected and dedicated academic" who was cycling in Bingley.

Andrew Platten (pictured), 55, from Bingley, died at the scene in Cottingley Cliffe Road in the town last July. 

West Yorkshire Police said officers had tried to stop the car after seeing the driver "acting suspiciously".

Officers said the car then "sped off and collided" with Dr Platten a short distance away.

Akash Rashid, 22, of Brantwood Grove, Heaton, admitted a number of offences at Bradford Crown Court in January.  

Signs outlining controversial new parking charges at Tesco's store on Drummond Street in Rotherham are to be removed, the company says.

The supermarket giant hoped to implement new rules next week requiring customers to spend £5 in stores in order to qualify for three hours parking.

But the council says it hasn't given its store permission to make the change .    

Rotherham council says any decision to grant a change to the store's planning permission will have to wait until after a period of consultation at the end of this month.

The leader of Barnsley Council says any plans to reduce business rates would see people in poorer communities hit the hardest.

Earlier this week it emerged the Chancellor Phillip Hammond had got a £12bn tax windfall.

Council leaders across the country have been calling for additional funding for older people's care.
