  7. Stuck on the M1/M62/A1? Don't get annoyed at people that push in, they're doing you a favour published at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    Nick Wilmshurst
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

We had some pretty hefty queues around some parts of Yorkshire this morning, meaning some annoying delays for thousands of us.

    Traffic

But what's more annoying than the delays themselves are the people trying to cut in at the last minute in a queue of traffic. But are they actually doing the right thing?

I just stumbled across something I thought you'd like to see,  taken from the How Stuff Works website, external

They say being polite and joining the queue as quickly as you can rather than just driving to where the traffic merges actually creates more problems.

They say we should think of this kind of a situation like a zip coming together, where the two lanes merge - and that using all of the available road actually speeds things up.

Not very British, though, is it?

    Quote Message

It seems pushy and unfair to rush to the front of the line, so we all agree to spend hours in a single, congested line of traffic when there's a perfectly good lane right next to us."

  8. Tree charity condemns Sheffield's felling programmepublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

An international charity has said it's deeply concerned about the felling of street trees as part of Sheffield City Council's Streets Ahead programme.

Trees for Cities is based in the UK but works around the world to create greener cities and has planted 25,000 trees in Sheffield in the last 10 years.

They say street trees provide essential ecosystem services and say it's unacceptable for any tree to be removed for economic gain

    Quote Message

At the very ethos of Trees for Cities is a belief that no healthy street tree should be destroyed before the end of its natural life, apart from in exceptional circumstances. Street trees have an irreplaceable aesthetic value that help make our cities liveable."

The incident happened between 14:30 and 15:15 on Sunday 26 February as the woman was walking her dog along a path next to the golf course.

A man called out to her, and concerned by this she turned to walk back the way she had come.

The same man then jumped out in front of her a bit further along the path and grabbed her neck.

In response to this, the woman's dog bit the man on his leg causing him to let go of the woman and allowing her and her dog to escape and get back to her car.

There were a number of other people in the area at the time, and officers are appealing to them to contact them, even if they did not see the incident itself.

A hospital trust is under fire after a baby was stillborn in Sheffield.

Rebecca Clarkson was 42-years-old when her daughter Ava died last year.

Rebecca says because she was over 40 she should have been treated by a consultant and offered an induction due to the risk of stillbirth.

She says she's not sure if she wants to try for another baby:

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says Rebecca was given consultant-led care due to her age.

After a review of Rebecca's case the trust says it's made some organisational changes to limit the chances of this happening again.

A new approach to adult social care in Doncaster which will see money spent more efficiently is being promised by the town's council.

The Your Life, Your Way plan is being rolled out over four years in response to the borough's ageing population.

It will focus resources on keeping people independent in their own homes for longer, with more locally based services.

Councillor Glyn Jones, who's responsible for social care at Doncaster Council, says new ways of helping older people have to be found:
