    There's been a landslip on the railway line between Sowerby Bridge and Halifax today.

    Network Rail says the problems are likely to last until early afternoon.

    In the meantime, it's worth keeping an eye on the Northern Twitter feed for any amendments, external to services between Blackpool and Manchester to Leeds and York.

    A team of Yorkshire mums who made international headlines after rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic have been talking about a new book detailing their story.

    Janette Benaddi, Helen Butters, Frances Davies and Nikki Doeg officially became Guinness World Record holders last year as the oldest all-female crew to row across any ocean. 

    It was Francis who came up with the idea of putting their adventure down on paper and here she is talking about the experience, followed by Helen who says writing the book wasn't easy:

    It's been announced this morning that panto is coming back to the York Barbican centre - this will take the total number of pantos being performed in the city's major theatres to three.

    Shane Lynch, from the multi-million selling band Boyzone, will team up with stars from EastEnders and Coronation Street for Robin Hood And The Babes In The Wood, from 21 to 31 December.

    Family and friends will remember Scarborough Athletic football club chairman Dave Holland later.

    His funeral will take place this afternoon.

    A celebration of his life will also take place at a hotel in Filey.

    If you think the opening of a new recycling centre isn't the most exciting thing in the world, you'd be right. 

    But what is interesting about a new site that opens today in Kirkstall, Leeds, is that the council have opened a shop at the site which sells stuff, external that doesn't belong in a skip.

    Things that can be reused like furniture and electrical items will be sold at the "Revive Leeds re-use shop". Which is great because I hate it when you see perfectly good things in the tip.

    But apart from the shop, you can look forward to a new one-way system and more drop-off bays, so dropping your rubbish off should be quicker.

    The Kirkstall site is Leeds’ biggest and busiest recycling site and the council spent £5.2m on doing it up. 

  6. Police search goes on for missing man Barry Jones, 77published at 11:09 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    Police are continuing to search for pensioner Barry Jones from Rotherham who has gone missing.

    The 77-year-old was seen on a bus journey (pictured) on Tuesday 28 February, the day he was last seen.

    Mr Jones got off at the Woodhouse Mill stop on the route of the X5 bus service.

    He was wearing blue jeans, a thermal vest and a green coat with a leather collar. 

    He is about 5ft 8ins tall, of a slim build, with a shaved head.

    A murder investigation is under way in York following the arrest of a 19-year-old man.

    He was taken into custody following reports in the early hours of this morning of a man near York Railway Station with blood on his hands. 

    Officers found the man in Scarcroft Road and later found the body of a man in his 50s inside a flat on Holgate Road.

  8. CCTV appeal after bank cards stolen in Huddersfield used in Rochdale published at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    Police want to speak to a man who was captured on CCTV after bank cards stolen in a burglary in Huddersfield were later used in Rochdale.

    The burglary happened last month at a house in Meltham.

    When the owner came home and discovered what had happened she called her bank to cancel her cards.

    But the bank told her the cards had already been used in Saddleworth and Rochdale.

  9. Sheffield 'can help power UK engineering revolution' - Theresa May published at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    The Prime Minister has highlighted a series of hi-tech investment announcements in the Sheffield area, saying the city can "help power a new engineering revolution for the UK".

    Writing in the Sheffield Star newspaper today, external , Theresa May says the imminent arrival of new McLaren and Boeing plants in South Yorkshire have been made possible by the city pooling its skills and working together.

    She says: "I want to see the prosperity that areas like London and the South East have enjoyed replicated across the country."

    Aerospace giant Boeing has recently announced plans to build its first European factory on the border of Sheffield and Rotherham , while luxury supercar manufacturer McLaren is to build a £50m chassis factory in South Yorkshire .

    So, in search of one of my favourite spring sights, I've spent the morning in the lambing shed at Woolas Grange, a farm near Appleton Roebuck in North Yorkshire.

    Several explosive rail detonators which could be dangerous in the wrong hands have been stolen in Doncaster.

    The theft took place at about 09:40 on Friday morning from a railway plant in the Sandall Lane industrial estate.

    Acting Insp Andy Coulter says: "Rail detonators are small devices placed on rail tracks to alert people who are working on the line that a train is approaching.

    "While these pieces of equipment do not pose a wider risk to the public, as they are detonated when a train travels over them and emit a very loud sound and slight explosion, they are used by trained professionals under strict safety guidelines.

    "As such, I’d like to ask that if you do see these items, not to touch them but instead to call us."

    Police in York are appealing for information following the arrest of a teenager in connection with the discovery of the body of a man in his 50s in the early hours of this morning.

    Detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Holgate Road area of York between 23:00 last night and 03:00 this morning.

    Officers were called in the early hours of this morning, after concerns about the behaviour of a man near York Railway Station  who had blood on his hands, external

    Police found the man in the Scarcroft Road area where he was arrested.

    They later found the body of a man in his 50s inside a flat on Holgate Road in York.

    Police say they are not yet in a position to release the name of the victim.

  13. 'A resource for local people': Deadline day for former Dewsbury Museum. published at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    It's the last day for community groups to apply to take over the former Dewsbury Museum.

    The museum closed in November as part of Kirklees Council's plans to save £500,000.  

    The building in Crow Nest Park will be put up for sale if no group puts forward a feasible plan to save it. 

    One group which has put forward an expression of interest in taking over the building is the Friends of Dewsbury Park Mansion.

    Jenifer Devlin, from the group, says, "What we want is for the buildings in Crow Nest Park to be a resource for local people where they can find activities which will help them to be happier, healthier, more creative, more knowledgeable and more empowered."

  14. Listen: Sheffield willow tit protection project gets under way published at 09:19

    One of the UK's most threatened bird species is having some of its habitats in Sheffield protected and improved.

    The willow tit project, which starts today, will focus on Fox Glen, Pot House Wood and Newhall Wood, with new trees due to be planted and more nest boxes placed.

    Leicester Tigers are reportedly interested in signing England full back Mike Brown and Yorkshire Carnegie winger Jonah Holmes.

    The Rugby Paper reports, external that England international Brown, 31, has spoken to Tigers about moving to Welford Road next season. 

    Holmes, who can also play at full back, has scored 46 tries in 80 appearances for the Headingley-based club.

    The Labour MP for York Central has revealed she received death threats and was sent an image of a severed head around the time her colleague Jo Cox MP was murdered.

    Rachael Maskell says the abuse came via social media and in some "very nasty emails".

    She says she is determined not to let the threats  prevent her serving her constituents .

    Jo Cox was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall, West Yorkshire on 16 June, 2016. The 41-year-old's killer, Thomas Mair, 53,  was jailed for life in November  after being found guilty.

    Ms Maskell said despite being concerned for her safety and that of her staff, the death of Mrs Cox was "so heavy" on her mind it "overrode everything else".

  17. Three children hurt in Bradford collisionpublished at 08:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    Three children have been taken to hospital after a car crashed into a parked car in Bradford early this morning.

    It happened on Leeds Road at about 12:15 and was discovered by two fire crews on their way back from a previous call-out.

    One child was found to still be in the car but wasn't trapped.

    That child and a further two children were treated before ambulance crews arrived.

    It was disappointment for the Sheffield Steelers in ice hockey's Challenge Cup final yesterday, losing 3-2 to the Cardiff Devils.

    Despite Sheffield leading 2-1 after the first period, Cardiff scored twice to win the Cup for the second time in three years.
