    A couple were dragged from their beds during a robbery in Halifax at the weekend, which left a man with serious injuries.

    It happened in the early hours of Saturday morning when several armed men forced their way in to the house on Hebble Vale Drive, Wheatley in what police think was a targeted attack.

    A violent attack which lasted several minutes then took place on the 28-year-old man during which he was seriously injured.

    A large amount of cash was stolen. The suspects are described as black males wearing dark clothing and they are believed to have used a silver Mercedes.

  2. New M1 services could create 300 new jobspublished at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2017

    There are plans for a new motorway service station at the end of Sheffield Parkway at junction 33 of the M1 in Rotherham.

    Applegreen plc intends to present the project as a planning application later this year.

    They say it would create 300 jobs and make good use of a vacant site on either side of the M1.  

    The site already has planning permission for two hotels and a petrol filling station.

  3. North Yorks shop shines in 'rural Oscars'published at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2017

    Spellow's village shop & Post Office in Marton cum Grafton near Boroughbridge has been named Northern Champion in the Village Shop and Post Office category.

    It's part of the Countryside Alliance Awards - known as the rural Oscars.

    The judges branded it "the true heart of this North Yorkshire community".

    Proud owner Helen Tessyman is now heading down to the House of Lords next week to find out if they've won the national award.

    A private firm is being brought in to turn around Doncaster market, the BBC can reveal.

    Quarterbridge have worked on markets around the UK including Brixton, where they created a champagne and oyster bar.

    It's part of the market's £3m development.

    The inquest into the death of a York man has opened and adjourned.

    The body of Shaun Skelton was found in a flat  at Chancery House, Holgate Road the city a week ago.

    Daniel Reed, 19, of no fixed address, was charged last week with his murder and is due back in court next month.

    A man had his arm broken after being attacked by a group of men in Ecclesfield, Sheffield in January.

    Police have just released these CCTV pictures of four men they'd like to speak to about the assault.

    It happened on Saturday 7 January at 22:30, when a 24-year-old man was set upon by a group at the Black Bull pub on Church Street. He also has injuries to his face.

  7. Batley woman guilty of encouraging terrorismpublished at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2017

    A 57-year-old woman from Batley has been found guilty of encouraging terrorism by re-tweeting a speech by the leader of so-called Islamic State.

    Mary Kaya denied posting the link and claimed her Twitter account was used by someone else. 

    But a jury at Leeds Crown Court found her guilty by majority verdict of distributing a terrorist publication likely to encourage people to participate in terrorism.

    The week-long trial heard that Kaya's Twitter account was monitored after her husband was arrested during a raid by counter terrorism police at a previous address in Dewsbury.

    Kaya will be sentenced on 27 March.

    A watermill in North Yorkshire's clocked up a million kilowatt hours of green energy.

    Star of BBC TV's Restoration Village - 18th-century Howsham Mill sits on an island on the River Derwent near Malton.

    In 2003 the mill was a ruin hidden in the trees on a small island in the River Derwent, five miles downstream from Malton - it's since been restored to its former glory, as it was when abandoned in 1947. 

    It was the first venue in the country to use the new Archimedean screw technology and today it clocked up the impressive one millionth kilowatt hour, being ploughed back into the National Grid.

    Looks like more of our rail network is slow going this afternoon after signalling problems near Finningley. It's affecting trains around Doncaster.

    Trains are running between Doncaster and Lincoln, but they're slow.

    A man suffered serious injuries after being stabbed in Huddersfield yesterday afternoon.

    The 41-year-old had confronted three or four men who were suspected of attempting to steal money from his son on Pollard Street in Fartown at around 16:30.

    The men then assaulted the victim and he was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition. 

    Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and remain in custody.

  12. Watch: Rustlings Road tree replantedpublished at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2017

    New trees are being planted on Sheffield's Rustlings Road today - four months after seven others were removed by council contractors amid angry protests.

    The trees were cut down before dawn and some protesters were arrested.

    The council apologised for the way the felling was handled and says 16 trees will replace the ones that were removed.

    If you want to see York City in tomorrow's FA Trophy semi-final first leg against Lincoln, you have less than 24-hours to get your ticket.

    Tickets will only be available until noon tomorrow.

    The opening hours at York City's ticket office at Bootham Crescent have been extended today - It'll be open until 19:00 this evening, so fans can get tickets after work.

    The match is all-ticket, none will be on sale at the door tomorrow.

  14. Doncaster hit and run victim 'loving and caring'published at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2017

    A woman who died in a hit-and-run incident in South Yorkshire was "loving and caring" her family has said.

    Susan Gravel, 62, died after being hit by a stolen grey or silver BMW, on Station Road in Stainforth, just before 13:00 on Saturday lunchtime.

    Police said the stolen car crashed into a parked vehicle on Station Road before the incident.

    It was seen leaving an Asda supermarket car park, close to where officers in an unmarked police car were patrolling.

    Mrs Gravel's family paid tribute to a "loving, caring sister, mother, aunty and grandmother".

    Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which is also being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

    Police in Selby say they're clamping down on off-road bikers who ride illegally.

    Officers have been called to "numerous reports of bikers riding irresponsibly" in and around the villages of Fairburn and Brotherton, "pulling wheelies on the A1246 or riding off-road in areas where they don't have permission."

    PC Kylie Boyle, said: "local residents have reported being sprayed with mud or nearly run down by off-road bikes." 

    Police say any anti-social use of off-road motorbikes will not be tolerated and offenders who are caught will face a fine and will have their bike seized.

    South Yorkshire councils will get £60m from the government to pay for adult care over the next three years.

    Half of that money is for the next financial year alone.

    The Chancellor Phillip Hammond announced an extra £2bn for councils to spend on older people's care up to 2020 in last week's budget.

    But the Local Government Association says local authorities need almost three times that to plug the funding gap.

    A woman's recovering after falling during a riverside walk at Hardcastle Crags, near Hebden Bridge yesterday.

    The woman had injured her back and couldn't stand, so The Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team, external  were called and arrived on the scene very quickly.

    They then looked after the injured woman and carried her on a stretcher to a car park where the ambulance crew took over.

    Well it turns out he's had to cancel the show after his doctor says he needs to rest his voice.

    The X Factor winner says the gig will be rescheduled for the 29 May with all original tickets being valid.

    Strike action by RMT members has led to delays and cancellations on some trains across Yorkshire today. 

    The union's unhappy about plans by Northern rail to bring in Driver only operated trains. 

    There'd still be two people working on the train but it would be the drivers who open and close the doors, rather than the conductor. The RMT says this will impact on passenger safety. 

    Katy usually gets the train from Horsforth station in Leeds every morning. She says she does have sympathy with those on strike:

    Rotherham council have bought the former magistrates court in the town for £1.
