    I'm on board the 07:40 Northern Harrogate to Leeds train service experiencing the impact of industrial action being taken by members of the RMT union.

    It's fair to say it's quite quiet at the moment, whereas lots of people appear to be using the 36 bus service, further down the road. 

    Of the 20 or so people in my carriage, I've already heard three phone calls apologising for being late to work due to the strike action.

    We're being warned to expect widespread travel disruption because of a strike by staff working for the rail company Northern - it's part of a row over the role of guards on trains. 

    Northern says it is running just 40% of its trains. 

    I'm at Selby train station where a reduced service is running between Selby, York, Leeds and Hull.

    I've been speaking to some of the commuters, including one woman trying to get to the first day of her new job.

    The inquest into the death of a man in York opens today .

    The body of 53-year-old Shaun Skelton (pictured) was found in a flat on the city's Holgate Road a week ago. 

    Daniel Thomas Reed, 19, has been charged with his murder and is due back in court in April.
