    Yorkshire police dog, Dutch, a member of the North Yorkshire Police Dog Section, has caught the attention of American TV networks.

    The video of PD Dutch, leaping through an open car window on a training exercise, is being tweeted by Good Morning America and ABC News.

  3. Plans for fourth lap dancing club in Leeds approvedpublished at 09:11 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Plans for Leeds' biggest lap dancing club have been approved. 

    It'll be called Black Orchid and will be opposite the Corn Exchange at the former Townhouse venue, in Crown Street.

    The City Council's approved the club, despite 77 objections and a petition. 

    The club is the fourth establishment of its kind in the city centre - the maximum number the council can approve licences for.

    Objectors said they were concerned the venue is too close to the historic Corn Exchange  and creates the wrong impression of the city.

    A man from South Yorkshire who lost his arm in a car crash says he's being denied money for a life changing new prosthetic by the NHS. 

    Adrian Barrass, from Swinton, had his right arm amputated up to his shoulder 13-years-ago, but has repeatedly been turned down for funding for a new state-of-the-art digital prosthetic. 

    He says without it, he's unable to complete simple, everday tasks:

    The NHS has responded by saying that after an individual funding request, it was deemed in this case the treatment available is unsuitable.

    Adrian's local MP, John Healey, has now become involved. 

  5. York man dies after road crashpublished at 08:33 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    A 23-year-old York man has died following a collision near York yesterday.

    Police say it happened at 09:20 on Monday on Towthorpe Moor Lane in Strensall, near the entrance to the army barracks, when a blue Peugeot 206 convertible was in collision with a stationary Mitsubishi Outlander.

    The two people in the Peugeot and the driver of the Mitsubishi were taken to hospital. 

    Police say the front seat passenger of the Peugeot died from his injuries in Leeds General Infirmary. 

    The Peugeot had been travelling towards Strensall from the direction of the A64 and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles before the crash, to contact them.

  8. Multi-milllion pound deal for Leeds vending machine businesspublished at 07:57 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Northern Ireland-based crisp maker Tayto has bought a Leeds-based vending machine business in a multi-million pound deal.

    Freedom Refreshments is a UK-wide group that employs 160 people. It turned over £16m in 2016.

    It is Tayto's third acquisition in England this year after it bought a snack company and a majority stake in a popcorn business.

    The company said the deal allowed Tayto to "increase our presence significantly within this sector".

    The Tayto Group has been owned by the Hutchinson family since 1956 and is the third-largest snack manufacturer in the UK.

    A woman, who believes she was attacked by the Yorkshire Ripper, says the police should be more open about their investigation. 

    The former Bradford lorry driver, now 70, was given 20 life terms in 1981 for murdering 13 women and attempting to kill seven more. Most of his victims were women working as prostitutes.

    Mo Lea spoke to BBC Radio Leeds, after reports Peter Sutcliffe is being questioned about 17 unsolved cases.

    West Yorkshire Police said it would not comment on who detectives had spoken to in the course of an ongoing investigation.  

  10. Egg hunt without Easter 'spits on Cadbury founder grave'published at 07:30 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    The Church of England has accused Cadbury and the National Trust of "airbrushing faith" by omitting references to Easter from egg hunts.

    The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, said calling the event the Cadbury Egg Hunt was like "spitting on the grave" of the firm's Christian founder, John Cadbury.

    The chocolate maker told  the Daily Telegraph, external  that it welcomed people of "all faiths and none".

    The National Trust denied it was downplaying the significance of Easter.

    A Cadbury spokeswoman echoed the trust's denial. She said, "It's simply not true to claim we have removed the word 'Easter' from our marketing and communication materials."

  11. Hunt for South Yorkshire on-the-run smuggler lorry driverpublished at 07:18 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Customs officers are searching for a lorry driver from South Yorkshire who's gone on the run after being caught smuggling more than five and a half million cigarettes into the UK.

    Richard David Curtis, 57, from Bawtry, failed to attend his trial at Maidstone Crown Court and was found guilty of evading more than £1.3m in excise duty. 

    His lorry was stopped at Dover in November 2013 and the cigarettes were found beneath boxes of frozen chips.

    He was jailed for three years and nine months in his absence.

    There's been a rise in the number of people identified as so called "modern day slaves" living in Yorkshire. 

    An investigation by the BBC has revealed more than 330 potential victims in the county were flagged up to the government last year

    The crime most commonly involves people being trafficked from overseas and then forced to work while being exploited for money or sex .

    The number of suspected victims of slavery and human trafficking has more than doubled in three years.
