    Users who have not updated their iPhone remain at risk of a ransomware attack where money is demanded to unlock the handset's browser .

    A pop-up screen accuses the phone owner of accessing illegal pornography or pirating music and it can't be removed.

    However the ransomware is fake - and clearing the browser cache is actually enough to restore full access.

    The attackers demand £100 in the form of an iTunes gift card with the code sent via text message to a designated mobile number, said security firm Lookout in a blog about the malware.

    "The attack doesn't actually encrypt any data and hold it ransom,"  wrote its security researchers, external .

    A patch closed the loophole but Professor Alan Woodward, cybersecurity expert at Surrey University said some iPhone users have put off the update because it also includes other changes to the running of the device.

    "Some people have held off thinking it sounds fairly major, but obviously if they do that they won't get the protection," he said.

    Earlier we were telling you about a donated defibrillator that was found dumped in a hedge in Barnsley after vandals forced the cabinet open.

    It's thought the box (above) that houses the defibrillator was forced open on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

    The life-saving device was checked to make sure it still worked and will be reinstalled.

  8. Two jailed for 'act of pure evil' on Scarborough manpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Two men have been sentenced to life in jail today for beating a 50-year-old man to death in what was described as “an act of pure evil”.

    Clifford Honeyman (pictured left), 42, and Andrew Stevenson, 39, inflicted catastrophic injuries on Richard Walker during the sustained attack at his flat in Scarborough.

    Stevenson will serve at least 27 years behind bars and Honeyman will serve a minimum of 24, both denied murder and a three-week trial followed.

    After the trial Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn said that their actions had been "extremely violent" and "totally unnecessary".

  9. Family urge missing Glusburn woman to 'get in touch'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    The husband of Pamela Morris has made an emotional appeal urging his wife to get in touch. 

    Mrs Morris has not been seen since Tuesday and police are growing "increasingly concerned" for her safety.

    Officers investigating her disappearance have also released new images of the 61-year-old. 

    They were captured by CCTV as she boarded a bus for Skipton. 

    The last confirmed sighting of Mrs Morris was when she left the bus in Skipton at 08:45am on Tuesday 4 April.

  10. Karen Matthews documentary airs tonightpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    A new documentary which claims to "try and get to the truth" about Karen Matthews airs tonight on Channel 5.

    Shannon Matthews: The Mother's Story looks at what drove Matthews to claim that her daughter Shannon had gone missing. 

    The programme, which starts at 22:00 BST, will also ask if she now feels remorse for her actions in 2008 and if she is now able to rebuild her life. 

  11. Watch: Fundraising under way for refugee welcome centrepublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    There are plans to establish a "Welcome Centre" for asylum seekers and refugees in Sheffield City Centre.

    It's being led by Sheffield's City of Sanctuary organisation.

    They're holding a big meeting this evening to try to gather support for the project.

    Some good news this afternoon, missing 12-year-old Izabela Vorosova has now been found safe and well.

  14. Defibrillator dumped after vandals force open cabinetpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    A donated defibrillator was found dumped in a hedge after vandals forced the cabinet open.

    Volunteers out for their weekend Park Run in Locke Park, Barnsley, found the unit undamaged nearby.

    It's thought the box that houses the defibrillator was forced open on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

  15. Man suffers serious injuries in Sheffield attackpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    A man is in hospital with serious injuries after an attack in Sheffield city centre this morning.

    Emergency services were called to West Street at around 03:50 BST after the man was found injured near to Broughton House.

    The man may have been in a vehicle that was involved in a collision a short time before the reported attack took place.

    A vehicle, thought to be the injured man’s, has been recovered by police. 

  16. Moths eating their way through Brodsworth Hallpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Clothes moths are wreaking havoc at some of country's most historic homes, including Brodsworth Hall in Doncaster.

    They've doubled in numbers over the past five years and the larvae love to eat things like wool, carpet and clothes.

  17. Two escape with minor injuries after crash near Halifaxpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Two people are recovering after a crash in Halifax this lunchtime:

    Three vehicles collided in Stump Cross, sandwiching this van. The driver and passenger had to be rescued by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

    Four fire crews attended the scene and luckily all escaped with only minor injuries.

  18. Bronte fans needed for 200th birthday projectpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Fans of Emily Bronte's masterpiece Wuthering Heights are being asked to get involved in a special project to celebrate the bicentenary of her birth.

    The original manuscript no longer survives, but visitors to the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth will each be able to copy out a sentence of the novel. 

    The completed book will be displayed next year.  

  19. Candid warning to bad drivers in North Yorkshirepublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Police have warned drivers travelling in North Yorkshire about their behaviour after they received more than 560 emails and videos in four months showing bad driving.

    It's part of a crack down which encourages people to report dangerous drivers

    Since mid-December more than 60 warning letters have been out and there are 12 prosecutions pending.

  20. Woman fights off attacker as she visits gravepublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    A woman who was visiting the grave has fought off a mugger in Staincliffe near Dewsbury.

    Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident which took place on Staincliffe Hall Road on Monday. 

    The woman, who is in her 50s, was approached by a man who tried to grab her bag from her arm but she resisted and the suspect ran off empty-handed.  

    The suspect is described as a white male, about 25-years-old, 5ft 10ins, slim, with light brown hair.
