    A man from Yorkshire has been jailed for life for killing his former partner .

    The body of 35 year old Lucy Jones was discovered with more than 90 injuries by South Yorkshire Police when they were called to a house on West Street in Goldthorpe on 8 October 2016.

    Liam Fletcher, aged 30 and of Elizabeth Street in Goldthorpe, was found guilty of murder and was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday.

    He will serve a minimum of 20 years in prison.

  4. Men sought over gems scam in Bradfordpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Police are looking for these two men after a man was conned out of a large amount of cash in Bradford.

    Officers say that a 45-year-old man was approached and a man offered to buy his car. They then met last Wednesday to discuss the details of the purchase. 

    The victim was offered "gems", which he was told were worth around £40,000 for a "discounted price". 

    The man agreed and handed over a large sum of cash.

    Police say that the so-called gems turned out to be fake.

    The Very Revd Dr Pete Wilcox has been confirmed as the new Bishop of Sheffield.

    He's taken up the post after the Rt Revd Philip North declined the promotion after fellow clergy in his new diocese objected to his stance against ordaining women priests.

  6. Huddersfield man dies in A614 collisionpublished at 10:14 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    A man from West Yorkshire has died after his motorbike was involved in a collision with a van near Market Weighton, in East Yorkshire, yesterday.

    The 57-year-old man, from Huddersfield, was travelling on the A614 near Easthorpe Wold just before 15:00 on Thursday when he collided with the rear of a van. 

    His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

    Police are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

    Final preparations are underway ahead of the re-opening of the Jorvik Viking Centre in York tomorrow. 

    It's undergone a £4m renovation, after being badly damaged in the 2015 Boxing Day floods. 

    The centre depicts life as it was in the city more than a thousand years ago.

    Police say they want to put persistent shoplifters "out of business" in Wakefield.

    Bedale is the latest town to be struck by yarn bombing - the practice of reclaiming urban space with a pair of knitting needles.

    Residents woke yesterday to discover their market town covered in woolly Easter bonnets.

    Through the hours of darkness, a new group of Ninja Knitters struck to decorate the town for Easter and the start of the tourist season.

    The work of this secret group doesn't seem to have unsettled residents.

    In fact it's hoped the woollen decorations will attract visitors to the town and not just those with an eye for interlocked fibre textiles, skillfully crafted into warming headgear.

    I'm in Sheffield city centre this morning, standing where 7,000 people will be on Sunday.

    Why? Because this weekend Arundel Gate will be the Start/Finish line for the Yorkshire Half Mararthon in Sheffield.

    The event hit the headlines in 2014 when it was cancelled due to a water shortage.

    However, a new team has been brought in to look after the event, which is famous for its hilly course.

    More than 1,300 warning letters have been handed to drivers who are driving incorrectly on a city-centre road in York.

    New restrictions came into force on Coppergate in the city in January, along with around 40 signs explaining the changes - since then only 80 fines have been issued.

    But from July everyone caught breaking the rules will be fined, when a six month "grace period" ends.

    A dementia charity says it's expecting an increase in callers following tonight's episode of Emmerdale, which is set in a fictional Yorkshire village.

    Millions are expected to watch as long serving character, Ashley Thomas, loses his battle with the disease.

    Dementia Forward have a helpline based in Ripon and York and say they see an increase in people asking more difficult questions after a TV storyline like this.

  20. Tramlines £1.2m takeover bid revealedpublished at 07:22 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    A crowd-funding bid to buy  Sheffield's Tramlines festival for £1.2m has been launched.

    Music City Foundation, which is behind the proposed buyout, said it wanted to "buy back the festival for the people".

    It said it had been given until mid-June to raise the money, and then the proposal would go before the Tramlines board.

    Festival director Sarah Nulty said the board had "agreed in principle to the offer" subject to shareholder approval.
