    It's a ceremonial start giving everyone the chance to get warm and crowds to see the riders.

    I'm lucky enough to be riding in a car just ahead of the peloton, so I will be having the first glimpse of the crowds awaiting the riders in the villages and towns of Yorkshire this afternoon.

    The weather for today's final stage is looking great for both riders and spectators at the minute.

    It's currently 12 degrees in Bradford (forecast below), with the temperature set to rise up to 15 degrees by the time it gets to Fox Valley. 

    It's fairly cloudy, but the sun should be out now and again.

    Some have asked, how come the race organisers call it the 'Tour de Yorkshire'?

    In short, the race is owned by the Paris-based Amaury Sports Organisation, which also runs the Tour de France.

    As a nod to the origins of the race, the route's key climbs have also been given French names.

    Day three sees twice as many climbs as the first two stages combined, with a gruelling final test for the riders. They will be facing:

    1. Côte de Silsden (1.5km at average of 10.4%)
    2. Côte de Howarth (0.6km at average of 10.6%)
    3. Côte de Leeming (2.1km at average of 7.3%)  
    4. Côte de Shibden Wall (1km at average of 13.5%)
    5. Côte de Deepcar (1.7km at average of 8.5%)
    6. Côte de Wigtwizzle (1.4km at average of 9.1%) 
    7. Côte de Ewden Height (1km at average of 12%)

    As well as today being the final day of the Tour de Yorkshire, it's also when amateur riders get the chance to test themselves.

    The sportive event offers us mere mortals the chance to ride sections of the route and feel like a pro!

    I tackled Pea Royd Hill near Stocksbridge - it was a beast:

    Most of the route's road closures will last a maximum of an hour while the pelaton passes, but longer closures will be seen on some climbs and near the start and finish of the three stages.

    Today's full closures include:

    • Holden Lane, Silsden (Cote de Silsden) one way
    • Main Street, Haworth (Cote de Haworth)
    • Lee Lane, Halifax (Cote de Shibden Wall)
    • Briggate and Bethel Street, Brighouse

    Tour de Yorkshire 2017: Race update

    In scenes reminiscent of the 2014 Tour de France Grand Départ, large crowds turned out in Harrogate yesterday to watch a gripping sprint to the line which saw Nacer Bouhanni emerge triumphant.

    The French Cofidis rider said: "The conclusion of today’s stage was hard and steep. Here in Yorkshire it seems like all the roads are hilly!

    "There were so many people on the road today it felt like the Tour de France.”

    Roughly 2m descended on the 2016 race route to watch the action, with this year's event predicted to be just as popular.

    Organisers warn starts, finishes and climb locations are likely to be the busiest areas for crowds.
