    This is the scene at a recycling plant fire at Kilnhurst near Rotherham. 

    About 30 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze on Wharf Road and people are advised to avoid the area if possible.

    An 81-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in the Horbury area of Wakefield.

    It happened on Friday evening on Westfield Road when he was hit by a Chrysler car which was travelling towards Ossett. 

    He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. 

    The driver stayed at the scene and spoke to officers.

    Here are the latest pictures from Kilnhurst near Rotherham, where fire crews are currently tackling a large blaze.

    The fire is at an industrial site - believed to be a recycling plant -  on Wharf Road.

    The disappearance of a woman from Leeds over a month ago has sparked a renewed appeal for help by police trying to find her.

    Svitlana - or Lana - Krasnoselska, 40, a mother-of-one who's originally from Ukraine and who's lived in the UK for 12 years, disappeared from her home in Micklefield on 3 April.

    Since then, there's been no sign of her and police say a disappearance of this sort is "really unusual":

    A man was left with serious head injuries after he was attacked with an object in an unprovoked attack on the top deck of a bus in Bradford.

    West Yorkshire Police have released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to after the incident.

    It happened in February on the top deck of the 640 bus at Bradford Interchange when the 20-year-old man was struck on the head. 

    He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and was later released.

    Hare coursing in North Yorkshire will not be tolerated, police have warned.

    The caution comes after two men received court fines and costs totalling nearly £800 after pleading guilty to hunting a wild mammal with dogs near Leeming Bar.  

    Several witnesses saw the two using dogs to chase hares on private land and reported them to the police. They were both stopped and interviewed and their vehicle was seized.

    Wildlife crime officer PC Mark Woods says: "North Yorkshire Police will always respond to reports of this nature.

    "People in North Yorkshire don’t appreciate others trespassing on their land with dogs in order to hunt hares."

    Two Yorkshire cricketing stars are getting involved in a new scheme to get young people off the streets and into sport.

    Joe Root, the new England captain, and his team mate, Adil Rashid, are launching the Cricket has no Boundaries initiative.

    It'll see a range of sporting activities offered to young people in communities with high levels of anti-social behaviour.

    Crews at eight Yorkshire lifeboat stations have been challenged to come up with novel ways of transporting a small yellow welly throughout May - all in the name of charity.

    A team of four from Whitby RNLI (pictured) cycled across the moors to deliver the welly to Scarborough lifeboat house at the weekend.  

    Today, a team of four is due to carry the canary coloured rubber boot on a spine board along the Cleveland Way to Filey.

    The welly will then be taken to Flamborough, Bridlington, Withernsea and Spurn Point.

    The relay, which began in Staithes, North Yorkshire, is to raise funds for the RNLI's Mayday campaign which aims to buy £750,000 worth of lifesaving equipment.

    A prize will go to the station which does "welly good" (sorry, I tried not to..) and raises the most money.

    Police in Leeds say the disappearance of a Leeds woman, who's originally from Ukraine, is "really unusual" and are renewing their appeal for help in finding her.

    Mum-of-one Svitlana Krasnoselska, 40, who's also known as Lana, disappeared from her home in Micklefield on 3 April.

    Det Supt Lisa Atkinson says everyone is "genuinely concerned" for her welfare: "It's really unusual for people to vanish without a trace. People don't just disappear into thin air. Her family are distressed - we're in week five now - but there's nothing."

    Det Supt Atkinson says officers particularly want to speak to anyone who knew Lana while she lived on Dunhill Rise in Halton, Leeds, between September 2016 and March this year.

    She says: "I'm keen to speak to any friends or associates she came across during that period and who can tell us a bit about Lana and may give us some clues as to where she is."

  17. York woman suffers 'life-threatening' injuriespublished at 08:36 British Summer Time 8 May 2017

    A woman's in hospital with "life-threatening" injuries after being hit by a car in York at the weekend.

    It happened on the city's Ouse Bridge at about 23:00 on Saturday night. 

    The 23-year-old woman suffered head and pelvic injuries.  

    The 79-year-old driver of a grey Skoda Octavia, who was unhurt in the incident, spoke voluntarily to the police afterwards.

    Police are appealing, external for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.

  19. Teenager seriously hurt in Sheffield bus collisionpublished at 08:12 British Summer Time 8 May 2017

    A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured after being hit be a bus in Sheffield.

    The boy was running along Eastern Avenue at about 10:30 on Saturday morning when the incident, which involved a single-decker bus heading towards the city centre, took place.

    The boy is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. No-one else was hurt in the incident.

    Anyone with any information about the collision is being asked to contact police.
