Rivers running dry are - or should be - a rare sight at this time of year.

But because many parts of the country haven't had their usual amount of rainfall, it's something that's becoming a reality.

    Nick Wilmshurst
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

We all know that the polls for various elections recently have not turned out to be entirely accurate, but what about an actual pole causing some trouble for voters?

    Polling boothImage source, John Lincoln

This temporary polling booth in Farnley, Leeds, has gone up nice and early before the general election on 8 June, but has presented a few "access issues", to say the least.

The above photo has been doing the rounds on Facebook, along with a bit of flak for Leeds City Council who put the polling booth there.

The council says its team has been back with "specialist equipment" and that the offending pole has now been taken away.

    Quote Message

This isn’t quite what we meant by pole-ing when we commissioned a polling station there"

Council meetings in Kirklees could be moved from town halls into cafes and the voting age should be lowered to 16...

Those are two ideas being looked at in a major report on democracy which has been commissioned by Kirklees Council.

The Democracy Commission, which has written the report, also warns the role of thousands of local councillors could be become "undeliverable and unachievable".

Dr Andy Mycock, from the University of Huddersfield, is the commission's independent chair and he says the authority's shown its "bravery" in calling for this report:
