  1. Escaped prisoner still on the run in Yorkpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 22 May 2017

    An escaped prisoner who's described as "dangerous" is still on the run in York after going missing from his police last week.

    Mark Ainsley was arrested last Wednesday, but then disappeared on a visit to the city's hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.

    North Yorkshire Police say they are still looking for him and are asking anyone who knows him, or who has information on his whereabouts, to contact them as a matter of urgency.

    South Yorkshire Police have released details of a boy they want to speak to in connection with a reported sexual assault in Sheffield in last month.

    The alleged attack took place on Friday 14 April at about 15:40, when a 19-year-old woman was walking behind Station Road in the Halfway area of Sheffield.

    The boy, thought to be aged about 16-years-old has dark brown hair, is of small build and believed to have been wearing a navy blue jacket and dark tracksuit bottoms.

    Rail passengers who have been stuck on a train for three hours just yards from Leeds station have finally been released from their stranded train.

    The 08:16 Northern service from Ilkley ground to a halt outside Armley Junction just after 09:00. Various attempts to get the train moving again failed.

    But now passengers have been moved on to another train and we understand they are on the move again.

    A spokesman for Northern said: "The cause of the incident is still to be determined, though it is believed there was an issue with the overhead power lines, possibly as a result of vandalism."

    A music quiz about the recently deceased Moors Murderer Ian Brady (pictured below) broadcast on BBC local radio has been described as "unacceptable" by the corporation.

    The segment, on BBC Radio Leeds, was hosted by presenter Nathan Turvey during Sunday's breakfast programme.

    Listeners were asked to guess the identity of a person "who'd been in the news" from a series of musical clues.

    Mr Turvey played clips from tracks including The Brady Bunch theme song and The Smiths' Suffer Little Children.

    A BBC spokesman said: "This was clearly unacceptable and we apologise."

    Police want to talk to these two men after a man was seriously hurt when he was beaten up outside a Bradford pub.

    It happened on Saturday night at the Hand and Shuttle Public House on Tong Street.

    A 39-year-old man was sitting outside when he was approached from behind and assaulted.

    He received serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

    Three people suffered injuries to their legs and arms after being shot in Bradford at the weekend.

    Armed officers were called to the scene at an address in Parkway at about 01:00 on Saturday.

    Two men, aged 22 and 41, and a 38-year-old woman, needed hospital treatment but have since been discharged.

    Jordan Barrett, 22, of Chelwood Drive, Allerton, has been charged with attempted murder and is due before Bradford Magistrates' Court later.

    He has also been charged with firearms offences.

    Bradford City boss Stuart McCall said he was "close to clocking" Millwall fans who invaded the pitch at the end of the League One play-off final.

    McCall said he and some of his players were goaded by supporters following their 1-0 loss to the Lions at Wembley and he questioned why stewards had not prevented the invasion.

    "We're absolutely distraught, we wanted to clap our own fans, the last thing we need is people running around us and giving us verbals," said McCall.

    "I think it's nonsense," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "Ten minutes later an army of stewards comes on when they should have been on straight after the final whistle and stood on the halfway line.

    Millwall boss Neil Harris said, "I don't condone it whatsoever. I'm just hoping there was no disrespect towards Stuart and his team."

    Some commuters in West Yorkshire have been stuck on a broken down train just outside Leeds Railway Station for almost three hours.

    The Northern service should have got to Leeds station just before 08:40 this morning, but due to an electrical failure has been stuck on the tracks.

    Passengers have complained that Northern has been slow to provide water, and with the weather getting warmer the temperature on the train has been going up:

    It's thought that a new type of tree may have been found in North Yorkshire and it is expected to be the star attraction at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.

    Retired chemist Doctor Alan Warwick says he spotted it in his garden 15 years ago and it's now been nominated as Plant of the Year.

    The Sheffield Steelers, external have announced that Guillaume Desbiens has decided to retire from professional ice hockey after receiving a job opportunity in North America.

    The Canadian had only signed a new-two year contract last month.

    The forward says the timing and the opportunity were just too good to refuse.

    The story of the woman behind a group from North Yorkshire, who became known as the Calendar Girls, is being told in a new BBC TV series which starts today.

    In 1998 Angela Knowles inspired the famous naked WI charity calendar to raise money after her husband, John Baker, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

    That calendar then inspired a hit film about the WI group and their charity calendar.

    In the programme called Going Back, Giving Back, Angela meets Katie Moore, who's newly-widowed.
