  2. One Love Manchester concert tickets go on salepublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    Tickets for the concert to benefit the victims of the Manchester attack have gone on sale.

    One Love Manchester takes place on Sunday, with proceeds going to the Red Cross's Manchester Emergency Fund.

    A total of 22 people died - including five people from Yorkshire - and 116 were injured in a suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena last week.

    Grande will play at the benefit gig alongside Take That, Niall Horan, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.

    A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murderafter a woman, believed to be in her 80s, was found at a house in Pontefract last night.

    Police were called to the house, on Park Lane, at about 22:30 yesterday after an ambulance had attended the scene.

    A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later, meanwhile "enquiries remain ongoing", say police.

    Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman, believed to be in her 80s, was found dead at a house in Pontrefract.

    Refugees and asylum seekers are showing their love of football in Barnsley as part of a community project.

    Refugee Tigers, run by Barnsley FC's Reds in the Community, has players from Iran, Eritrea and Sudan among others.

    About 30 players get a weekly coaching session followed by a match.

    They say it keeps them fit and helps improve their English language skills:

    You might remember that yesterday we mentioned a tattoo parlour in Richmond, North Yorkshire, which is raising money to help the families of those affected by the Manchester terror attack.

    Staff said they'd been inundated with requests for tattoos featuring a bee design - a symbol of Manchester - to show solidarity with the victims of the suicide attack.

    Now it seems that people in York have been getting bee tattoos as well to show their support.

    York Tattoo Studios says it's had back-to-back bookings for the tattoos and they're helping to raise money for those affected:

  7. Diamonds and sapphires stolen in Huddersfield burglarypublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    A "significant amount" of jewellery has been stolen from a house in Huddersfield.

    Valuable watches and diamond rings were taken from a home on Elmfield Drive in Skelmanthorpe in the early hours of last Friday, police say.

    Some of the stolen items stolen include: 

    • A three-stone cluster diamond engagement ring 
    • A solitare white metal engagement ring 
    • A sapphire and diamond cluster ring
    • A yellow gold belcher chain necklace
    • A yellow gold peardrop-shaped earrings 
    • Clear stone and yellow gold hoop earrings 
    • A lady's Gucci watch with a yellow metal bangle clasp
    • A Tag Heuer wristwatch with silver bracelet style clasp

    Police are urging anyone with information about the burglary to come forward, as well as anyone who has seen the items for sale or who's been offered them.

    A 15-year-old boy was racially abused on a train heading to Sheffield, police have revealed.

    The incident happened on the Manchester to Sheffield train at about 18:40 on 1 May.

    British Transport Police has released an image of a man they want to speak about the incident:

    The man got off the train when it arrived in Sheffield.

    People living in part of North Yorkshire say they're "outraged" by plans which would increase the size of their village almost eight-fold.

    Developers want to build 3,000 homes in Green Hammerton, near York.

    Villagers say building on a former golf course off the A1 is more appropriate and the plans are "ridiculous".

    Harrogate Council says it won't comment until after a meeting this evening.

  13. Former Wakefield youth centre damaged in blazepublished at 07:35 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    A former youth centre in Normanton near Wakefield has been gutted by fire overnight.

    Fire crews were called to the blaze at the building on Wakefield Road in Normanton at about 01:30 this morning.

    At its height about 25 firefighters from Normanton, Castleford, Featherstone and Wakefield tackled the blaze in the single-storey building.

  14. £200k breast cancer research boost for Sheffield Unipublished at 07:23 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    Scientists at the University of Sheffield have received a major grant to support their research into the link between breast and bone cancer.

    Over 1,000 women in South Yorkshire are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

    The money has come from the research charity Breast Cancer Now and will be used to see if a drug can stop cancer moving to different parts of the body.

    Work at the university has found that breast cancers can change the structure of bone to make it easier to spread there.

    A team from the University of Sheffield has been conducting research over the last two years into what makes patients so susceptible.

    Through the morning the cloud will break to allow some brighter spells to develop.

    It'll be dry through the evening with some sunny spells.

    Overnight, the cloud will tend to build from the west, perhaps with some rain arriving into western areas by dawn.

    An aristocrat who caused a three-car crash on a busy road has been cleared of dangerous driving.

    Lady Susan Zetland, 77, of Aske Hall, near Richmond, North Yorkshire, tried to cross the A66 at the Hargill junction on 4 July.

    Teesside Crown Court heard there was a contraflow put in place and cones indicating cars should only turn left onto the dual carriageway.

    Zetland had admitted careless driving, but denied being dangerous.

    After three hours of deliberation, jurors cleared her of the more serious charge.

  17. Tickets go on sale for Manchester attack benefit gigpublished at 06:52 British Summer Time 1 June 2017

    Tickets are due to go on sale later for the concert in aid of those affected by the Manchester bombing.

    Ariana Grande will be joined by the likes of Justin Bieber and Coldplay at the One Love Manchester show at Old Trafford cricket ground on Sunday.

    The One Love Manchester show will raise money for those affected by the blast which left 22 dead, including five people from Yorkshire.

    Proceeds will go to the We Love Manchester emergency fund, which has been set up by Manchester City Council, in conjunction with the British Red Cross.

    Organisers expect at least £2m to be raised from the event.
