    Do you remember Howsham Mill on the River Derwent in Ryedale?

    The Grade II-listed 18th Century mill was a finalist on the 2006 BBC Two series Restoration Village.

    Work to rescue the mill, overseen by the Renewable Heritage Trust, began in 2004.

    It now supplies energy to the National Grid and children can go there to learn about it.

    I've been to meet the team that runs it and bumped into Trustee, Valerie Hood, who says the mill, on an island in the middle of the Derwent, is "a magical place for children to visit"

    For the third year in a row Batley and Spen's electorate will be asked to vote for a new MP.

    Jo Cox took the seat for Labour in the 2015 general election, with a majority of more than 6,000 votes. But after her murder last year a by-election was held.

    Labour's Tracy Brabin was elected with an increased majority. Other major parties opted not to stand, a number of smaller parties - including the National Front and BNP - did but lost their deposits.

  4. Watch: Former soldier urges people to votepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    This is Simon Brown, he was shot in the head and lost his sight in 2006, during a rescue mission in Basra.

    He says that his injuries and his experiences in war-torn countries "where people don't have a voice", makes it even more important to vote tomorrow.

    Don't forget that this weekend the Leeds Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon is taking place, which not only means supreme sporting prowess...

    A 70-year-old former vicar accused of raping a boy in the 1980s in Bradford has been found dead.

    An arrest warrant had been issued for Trevor Devamanikkam after he failed to appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

    He was accused of six sexual offences allegedly committed while he was a vicar in Bradford.

    His body was found by police just after 16:00 on Tuesday, at a house in Priory Mill Lane in Witney in Oxfordshire.

    A woman has pleaded guilty to the murder of a man who she stabbed at a house in West Yorkshire.

    David Butterfield, 43, was found with a stab wound to the chest at the property in Gomersal, near Cleckheaton, on 13 January.

    Michelle Spencer, 48, of Shirley Terrace, Gomersal, pleaded guilty to murder on the first day of her trial at Leeds Crown Court.

    She has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on Thursday.

    A huge sinkhole has opened up in the middle of a road in a Huddersfield village.

    Workmen from Yorkshire Water discovered what some are calling the "Meltham Sinkhole" as they tried to repair a leaking main.

    Wessenden Head Road is now closed while Kirklees Council fills in the hole so Yorkshire Water can complete the repair.

  11. Thousands of new homes for Scarborough over next 15 years?published at 11:11 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    Nearly 10,000 new homes could be built in and around Scarborough in the next 15 years, according to plans expected to be approved by councillors in the town later today.

    Every area in England has a local plan which sets out what can be built where.

    Scarborough Borough Council is updating their plan for the next 15 years.

    Councillors are being asked to approve the planning blueprint.

    A cat from Wakefield is in the running for a top national award.

    Missy from Horbury is up for Most Caring Cat at this year's Cats Protection League's National Cat Awards. There were a lot of cats in that sentence.

    Missy's owners, Craig and Rosie Jones, were involved in a motorway car crash - they were lucky to survive, but were left with physical and mental scars.

    The couple nominated their pet for the award after they say that Missy has been there to provide comfort, reassurance, and loving support.

    The Home Office is under pressure to explain how one of the London Bridge attackers was able to return to the UK, despite being placed on a watch list.

    The Italian authorities said they'd issued warnings about Yousef Zaghba, who they suspected of supporting the so-called Islamic State group, after he tried to travel to Syria.

    Meanwhile, a recent graduate of the University of York, has been talking about her experience of being caught up in the incident.

    Marie Poupinel was hiding in a London bar when the attackers were shot by police just metres away.

    She says being with friends at the time was both "a blessing and a curse":

  17. Police crackdown sees 17 arrested for drink and drug driving in first weekpublished at 09:47 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    The first week of North Yorkshire Police's summer campaign on drink and drug driving has seen 17 arrests.

    Eleven arrests have been made for drink driving since 1 June and six arrests for drug driving.

    Eight of those arrested for drink driving provided a positive breath test of over twice the legal limit.

    It included one man, stopped on the A61, providing a sample almost four times over the legal limit for alcohol.

    Commenting on the results so far, Sgt Andy Morton said “At this early stage of the campaign, it’s disappointing to see some drivers continue to ignore the warnings and pay no attention to the safety of other road users.

    “Its also sad to see the alarming trend of being multiple times over the legal limit continuing."

    Experts from the University of Sheffield have designed a system that'll keep the stadium cool at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

    It's been officially unveiled at the newly renovated Khalifa stadium.

    The 40,000 seat Khalifa Stadium was first opened in 1976, but has undergone extensive renovations for the World Cup.

    The tournament has already been moved from the summer to November and December, but temperatures could still reach 29C.

    Dr Ben Hughes’s team, from Sheffield’s Energy 2050 institute, worked with colleagues from Qatar University to design the system.

    Dr Hughes says the system is greener than air conditioning and "cools the outside air and and pushes it through to the pitch, stands and concourse areas."

    On the the final day of campaigning in the general election, a former West Yorkshire soldier, who was badly injured in Iraq, is urging people to vote tomorrow.

  20. WWI Leeds soldier's violin played at his gravepublished at 09:12 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    A violin made by a Leeds soldier killed in battle during World War One has been played at his grave on the eve of the 100th anniversary of his death.

    Richard Howard, who died on 7 June 1917 in the Battle of Messines, started making the instrument in 1915 before enlisting in the army.

    It was later finished by a luthier in Oxford, before being bought by folk musician Sam Sweeney, who plays the violin for folk band Bellowhead, in 2009.

    Mr Sweeney played the violin at Pte Howard's grave in Ypres.

    He said: "It was incredible. About 100 people were there and some of his descendants came.

    "His granddaughter did a reading of a poem she wrote about him. It was very moving.

    "It's amazing - his family has been reunited because of this violin."

    Mr Howard was a luthier and music hall performer in Leeds.

    He was conscripted into the 10th battalion, Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment at the age of 35 in 1915 and was among seven men from the regiment who were killed on the first day of the battle in Belgium.
