    Police in Sheffield have arrested a man over suspected firearms offences.

    He was picked up by officers in Meadowhall Road yesterday afternoon.

    Police say it has no connection to any counter terrorism operations.

    An arrest warrant has been issued for a 70-year-old former vicar accused of raping a boy in the 1980s.

    Trevor Devamanikkam, from Witney, Oxfordshire failed to appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

    Mr Devamanikkam is charged with six serious sexual offences committed while he was a vicar in the city.

    The offences are alleged to have taken place between March 1984 and April 1985, when the victim was 16 years old.

    Glenn Goodman, 37, was shot on the A64 near Tadcaster on 7 June 1992 after stopping a car to make a routine check. He died in hospital later that day.

    Paul Magee, a member of the IRA, was sentenced to life imprisonment in March 1993 for the murder of Mr Goodman.

    The special constable had only been a member of the North Yorkshire force for eight months at the time of his death.

    About 1,000 mourners attended his funeral, which was held at Selby Abbey.

    An advert by a Leeds-based dairy has been banned, because a watchdog said it was 'misleading'.

    In the advertisment, Arla Foods, which has a plant at Stourton, Leeds, claimed the production of its organic milk was 'good for the land'.

    But the Advertising Standards Authority said that can't be backed up.

    Arla, which has one of the largest milk supply chains in Britain, has been told it can't use the advert again.

    The Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster has announced expansion plans that it says will create over 300 extra jobs and bring £50m worth of investment.

    The park has secured 150 acres of land next to the current site and is developing plans, which it says have the potential to make it one of the leading destinations in the UK.

    A visitor hub is being designed which could include a hotel, restaurants and shops.

    The YWP team say they're also working on plans for new reserves and the introduction of new species to continue the park's conservation and welfare work.

    CEO John Minion said: "We are very excited about this next stage of our life and believe it will be a game changer for Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster and the surrounding area.

    "This is a major investment for us and will double our workforce, creating around 300 new jobs."

    Public consultation events about the plans will take place on Friday and Saturday next week.

    The project is still in its early stages but it's thought outline planning permission will be submitted in the next few months.

    As the final day of campaigning in the general election gets underway, figures obtained by BBC Radio Leeds show more people have registered to vote across West Yorkshire, compared to the 2015 election.

    An extra 27,000 people in Bradford have registered to vote in tomorrow's general election.

    Meanwhile 50,000 more voters have registered across Bradford and Leeds.

    Leeds North West has seen the biggest increase in people registering to vote than anywhere in the UK.

    Numbers signing up there to be able to vote tomorrow are up 16% since the end of last year.

    Kirklees and Calderdale have also seen increases.

    A former head teacher has been banned from teaching indefinitely following claims she called a pupil who said they had been abused an "attention seeker".

    Kathryn Bell, former head at Great Smeaton School near Northallerton , failed to safeguard a vulnerable child, a conduct panel found.

    The National College for Teaching and Leadership ruled her actions breached child protection.

    It said she lacked "insight or remorse".

    A report by the panel, external found Ms Bell, who was head teacher at the school in 2012 and 2013, told the pupil's alleged abuser of the allegations made against him, without first informing the relevant authorities.

    It found that "this allowed a potential opportunity for any evidence to be destroyed before the police had an opportunity to investigate".

    A new telephone hotline and text messaging service has been launched to help people sleeping rough in Sheffield to get off the streets.

    People are being asked to use the new freephone number to report the location of people they see sleeping rough to a new Street Outreach Service provided by homelessness charity Framework.

    People can call on 0800 066 5358 or Text SOTS to 80800 (followed by a message).

    How's this for a shaggy dog story?

    A 10-year-old Patterdale terrier has been rescued after spending 19-hours underground down a drain in Ripon, North Yorkshire.

    Ziggy was out for a walk with his owner when he disappeared down the drain pipe and refused to re-surface.

    The RSPCA and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue dug some holes and eventually managed to retrieve him.

    After Ziggy emerged uninjured, owner Lauren said it was the third time he'd been down a hole "chasing something or following a scent".

    "My husband Tim spent the whole night trying to entice him out and, when he didn't emerge, I called in help."

    The RSPCA managed to trace the underground pipes and used a digger to dig two holes to get to the stricken pooch.

    Lauren says: "He's now back home with his owners where he belongs and no doubt he'll be getting up to no good again very soon!"

    On the rails across Yorkshire so far today everything seems to be running to time, although there is a warning some services between London and Scotland on the east coast main line may be affected by flooding.

    Heavy rain has flooded, external the railway near Drem, east of Edinburgh, causing disruption to journeys.

    Possible routes affected include: CrossCountry between Plymouth and Edinburgh and Virgin Trains East Coast between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh.
