    A mother of two who stabbed her partner to death in "a flash of temper" as they kissed and cuddled has been jailed for at least 13 years.

    Michelle Spencer (pictured above), 48, drove a 4in (11cm) kitchen knife into David Butterfield (below) at their home in Shirley Terrace, Gomersal, West Yorkshire, in January.

    She initially claimed she did not know who had attacked her partner but later accepted responsibility.

    Spencer, who admitted murder, was sentenced to life at Leeds Crown Court with a minimum term of 13 years.

    A 22-year-old woman has died in hospital in Sheffield after taking what's believed to be ecstasy.

    The woman's family has been informed, although formal identification has yet to take place.

    A second woman, who's 20, was also taken to hospital yesterday after suspected consumption of drugs and she remains seriously ill.

    The women are believed to have been on separate nights out in the city when they became ill in the Glossop Road area.

    Two people arrested in connection with the investigation, a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, have been released while enquiries continue.

    A coach carrying pupils from a primary school in Sheffield has collided with a lorry in East Yorkshire.

    A man and two children were hurt in the crash on the A614 close to Kirkburn at about 10:00 this morning.

    The children were travelling from Dore Primary School in Sheffield to Filey in North Yorkshire.

    Their injuries are not thought to be serious.

    Two men have been sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court after they were found to be drunk and verbally abusive towards passengers on a flight bound for Doncaster/Sheffield Airport.

    27-year-old Andris Vagals, of Barmby Road in Pocklington, York and Juris Terentjevs (pictured below), aged 30 of Fifth Avenue in Goole were on a flight from Riga in Latvia in January.

    Terentjevs was jailed for 12 months for endangering a person on an aircraft and being drunk on an aircraft, while Vagals was handed a four month sentence, suspended for 12 months, with 120 hours of unpaid work for being drunk on an aircraft.

    Schools across Yorkshire have cancelled trips to the capital after terror attacks in London and Manchester.

    Headteachers have said concerns from parents over disruption to public transport and an increased police presence contributed to their decision.

    In West Yorkshire, Whitcliffe Mount School in Cleckheaton cancelled a trip to London but Prince Henry's in Menston continued with their trips as planned.

    Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said: "Our advice to schools concerned about planned trips to London is to review and amend risk assessments as necessary and to talk to parents to gauge their views."

    Reaching the final stages of a top national award is a "dream come true" for a housekeeper at a Harrogate hotel.

    Jill Conte of the West Park Hotel has made it to the final three in the AA Housekeeper of the Year competitition.

    Jill said: “I have waited for years for this. This is the highest housekeeping award it is possible to win and I am very excited.”

    She puts her success down to passion and pride in her job. “I love my job and I am proud that I have never had a complaint since we opened the hotel."

    Hotel Manager, Nathan George, said: “It is fantastic that Jill has reached the final three. Now we are all awaiting the final outcome with bated breath!”

    Garages, workshops and manufacturers have been targeted by ram-raiders in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford with high value tools being stolen.

    Stolen cars were driven into the businesses and then loaded up with tools, driven off and abandoned.

    Police are warning people to be wary of being offered vehicle tools in suspicious circumstances.

    Yesterday thieves targeted a unit on the Tanshelf Industrial Estate, but they were unable to break in and drove off. Officers found the cars they used and are examining them.

    The University of Leeds has slipped out of the world's top 100.

    It's now sitting at number 101 in the QS World University Rankings down from number 93 last year.

    It's based on the uni's reputations as employers, how many academic papers they've published and the number of international staff and students they have.

    The University of Sheffield is up two places to 82 and the University of York sits in 135.

    A women has died after a collision on Kimberworth Road in Rotherham.

    The 24-year-old was a passenger in a car which collided with two parked vehicles near the junction with Psalters Lane in the early hours of this morning.

    A 22-year-old passenger has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and South Yorkshire Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 101.

    Earlier we brought you the latest on the proposed expansion plans for the Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster.

    If successful, the £50m development will see 300 jobs created plus more animal reserves, and the building of a restaurant and hotel.

    But some local residents have expressed their concerns:

    Park management have said the new land would enable a natural expansion of the existing attraction and people can have their say on the plans at public consultation events at the park, external on 16 and 17 June.
