    Hull City has become the first club in England to employ a Russian as Head Coach.

    The former Russia and C.S.K.A. Moscow boss Leonid Slutsky has been named as Marco Silva's replacement.

    He says he has a "good feeling" about the club.

  3. Manchester attack: Minute's silence at opening of inquestspublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    A minute's silence has been held at the start of the inquests into the 22 people who died in the Manchester Arena attack.

    Five of the victims were from Yorkshire.

    They died when suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a home-made device in the arena's foyer on 22 May following an Ariana Grande concert.

    Det Supt Jonathan Chadwick told the hearing the bomb was "designed to kill and maim indiscriminately".

    Coroner Nigel Meadows said the inquests at Manchester Civil Justice Centre would be adjourned until 24 November.

    He's right. More than half of the electorate in his constituency voted for him, but Labour increased their share of the vote by 7.3%, to his increase of 6.2%.

    He was still fairly comfortable, however, with a majority of 13,772.

    As is the national picture, UKIP were the big losers, with their vote dropping by almost 11%.

    A man from Doncaster who dressed as a fish finger during the general election campaign while standing as an independent against Tim Farron in the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency has failed in his bid to oust the Lib Dem leader.

    Despite failing to win a majority in the general election, she's expected to ask the Queen for permission to form a new government.

    With elections come statistics...

    Sometimes they're difficult to comprehend, hard to follow. There are exit polls, forecasts, turnout numbers - a whirlwind of facts, stats and spin, leaving you feeling dull and battered.

    Other times, for varying reasons, they leave you shocked and startled. Here's a couple that fall into the latter category.

    Phones

    Between them two North Yorkshire candidates have been alive for 106 years and have a massive 68 years age gap between them.

    The oldest candidate in North Yorkshire was Gordon Johnson, an Independent in Scarborough who won 82 votes. He's 87-years-old.

    Meanwhile, 68 years his junior is the youngest candidate in the county who was 19-year-old Jack Render.

    Jack stood as a candidate for The Yorkshire Party in Skipton and Ripon and won 1,539 votes.

    Britain has a hung parliament and not the increased conservative majority predicted by some when the general election was announced on 18 April.

    The Conservatives have more seats than any other party, but they don't have enough for a workable majority in Westminster.

    Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford's Labour MP, Yvette Cooper, held her seat overnight and says Theresa May made the election a "referendum on herself":

    One of the victims of the general election was Lib Dem Greg Mulholland.

    His old constituency of Leeds North West saw a huge swing to Labour of 14%.

    But he's not letting that affect him.

    We have one of the of the most dramatic results in recent General Election history.

    Instead of the expected clear increased majority in the House Of Commons, the Conservatives lost seats and we have a hung parliament.

    All North Yorkshire MPs kept their seats and the Conservatives continue to form a ring around the Labour seat of York Central.

    More on the news that UKIP leader Paul Nuttall's announced at a press conference in Boston, Lincolnshire, that he's resigning his post.

    He says the party's been a victim of its own success.

    He came third in Boston and Skegness.

    Mr Nuttall says: "We forced the referendum and we helped win Brexit and some people mistakenly think our job is done but it's not.

    "What a hubristic, foolish and politically naive election to call. It has put our Brexit at risk."

    Paul Nuttall has resigned as the leader of UKIP after his party failed to gain a single seat in Westminster.

    He stood for election in the Boston and Skegness constituency and came third.

    Voted for Hilary Benn in Leeds Central?

    The Labour MP says thanks.

    Mr Benn increased his share of the vote in his seat by 15.2% with the Conservatives also making a small gain of 3.2%.

    In political terms, North Yorkshire remains a sea of blue surrounding the tiny red dot of York Central.

    There are eight parliamentary constituencies in North Yorkshire, seven of them have re-elected conservative MPs. Rachel Maskell remains the areas only Labour MP.

    Conservative Stuart Andrew has held onto his Pudsey and Horsforth seat, but by a much reduced majority of 331, with labour gaining in the constituency by 9.2%.

    A recount was held, the returned MP said "it has been a very tense night" but called it a "disappointing night" for the party as a whole.

    In an interview on BBC Radio Leeds he said that the party now has some "serious messages from the public to think about."
