  1. Multi-million pound energy overhaul at Harrogate hospitalpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    Spending £7m making Harrogate District Hospital more energy efficient will create nearly £16m of savings over the next 25 years, health bosses say.

    Work to overhaul the hospital’s facilities, including replacing two of the original steam boilers and all internal lighting, will save about 625,000 per year which can instead be spent on direct patient care, they say.

    About £1m has so far been spent on the electrical infrastructure and about 8,500 LED lights have been installed, which the hospital says also has the effect of being friendlier for patients coping with dementia.

    Organisers of Sheffield's Music in the Gardens have apologised after legendary band The Zombies (pictured) pulled out of the event, external in the city later this month.

    People who've bought tickets to see the band on Thursday 29th June 2017 can use them to see other performances or get a refund.

    Other acts which are still due to take part in the Music in the Gardens event at the end of this month include 10CC and the Bootleg Beatles.

    The Queen's Speech - in which the government sets out its legislative programme - has been delayed for a few days, the BBC understands.

    The set-piece event had been due to take place on Monday 19 June.

    I'm asking because the boss of a chocolate firm in Skipton is getting married on Saturday and he's walking to his wedding 90-miles away.

    He's undertaking the trek, from Ilkley to Windermere-on-Bowness, to raise money for charity.

    Not only that, but his name is William. So given that, and the fact he owns a chocolate factory, he's doing it dressed as Willy Wonka!

    A Rotherham school's gone into special measures following a damning report by Ofsted.

    Inspectors said Wath Comprehensive - which was rated "good" in 2011 - is failing to give pupils an acceptable standard of education and that teaching there is inadequate, external.

    The school says it's completely committed to on-going plans to address the issues raised in the report.

    Traders at Leeds' Kirkgate market are being given a 20% reduction in their rent as fewer people spend their cash there.

    Leeds City Council say that they're reducing the rent for six months and that, although foot-fall is up, it doesn't always "correspond with the level of spend".

    People in charge of the market say that visitors to the market have returned to levels seen two years ago.

    But traders have said in the past that regulars have been "put off and (are) heading elsewhere."

    In February this year, it won "Britain's Favourite Market" and has recently gone through a £13.7m renovation.

    A man who is coping with cancer has been talking to the BBC about making his dream a reality - climbing to the top of Everest.

    Ian Toothill from Sheffield - who's raising money for charity - is thought to be the first person with cancer to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain.

  13. Passing the baton: Hundreds of Yorkshire pupils cycle 245 mile relaypublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    Students from 95 schools across Yorkshire are setting off today on a 245 mile cycling relay.

    As part of the Schools’ Yorkshire Tour relay, pupils are passing a baton from the start in Sheffield to the final destination in Leeds on 27 June.

    They'll cycle through Barnsley, Wakefield, Doncaster, York, Leeds, Bradford and Calderdale, before finishing in Leeds.

    On the way they'll ride past famous landmarks, including the historic Stamford Bridge Viaduct (pictured above), Lotherton Hall, (pictured below) and the Woolpack at Esholt, made famous by the long-running television programme Emmerdale.

    They all count in the arsenal of competive climbers and a big event in Sheffield is now open for entries.

    It's the British Bouldering Championships , externalwhich is one of the attraction in this year's Cliffhanger Festival, external in the city.

    It runs from July 7-9 and features many other outdoor pursuits, attracting thousands of visitors.

    This photo shows a car which police say was driven with a damaged tyre after it went over a stinger device, laid out by officers to stop it.

    Police say they acted after the driver failed to stop and was pursued along the A57 at Ladybower last night.

    The car went out of control when one of its wheel disintergrated, says the force.

    A man's been arrested and charged over drink-drugs offences.

    On Friday it will be a year since the murder of the Labour MP Jo Cox.

    She was stabbed and shot by a man who supported the far-right.

    Her husband Brendan Cox has spoken since about how he wants Jo to be remembered for what she achieved and aspired to in life rather than the way in which she died.

    It's one of the reasons he has just written a book called Jo Cox - More in Common. The proceeds from the book will go to a charity which supports the causes she believed in.

    British rock band, The Libertines, have announced they're on their way to Scarborough.
