York teenager jailed after defying 'hoodie' court orderpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 16 June 2017
A teenager's been jailed for four months after defying a court order and wearing a hoodie in a public place.
Police say it's the first case of its kind in the city.
Lewis Mathew Berkley, 18, stole and vandalised goods while on the run, York magistrates heard.
He also wore his hoodie with the hood up, which he was forbidden to do by a court order.
Under the requirements of the order, Berkley was not allowed to "have a hood up or on a hooded jacket have the hood tied around his face in any public place."
Berkley pleaded guilty to two instances of taking a vehicle without consent, criminal damage, theft, breaching the terms of his release and failing to surrender to court.
Quote MessageThe Criminal Behaviour Order imposed on Berkley was the first of its kind in York. This sends a message that breaches will be treated extremely seriously."
