    Here's what the new sculpture of Yorkshire poet Ted Hughes looks like...

    It will be officially unveiled in Mexborough this evening and marks the start of a festival dedicated to the late poet laureate.

    Hughes was born in Mytholmroyd in West Yorkshire but spent part of his childhood in Mexborough.

  3. Police search for man after boy, nine, grabbed in streetpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    A nine-year-old boy has been grabbed by a man in an area of Leeds and police are appealing for information about a "bald man".

    Luckily the boy managed to struggle free and run off.

    The assault happened at about 16:45 yesterday on Harehills Road near to the Bayswaters. 

    The boy was walking to the shops when the man grabbed him by the arm as he was crossing the road.

    The man is described as a white male with a bald head who was wearing dark clothing. Police have stepped up patrols in the area.

  5. Crewe crane collapse: Family release pictures of teenagerpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    The family of Rhys Barker, the 18-year-old from Castleford killed by a collapsing crane in Crewe, have released pictures of him.

    Rhys died alongside 36-year-old David Newall from Bradford died when a crane on a building site collapsed on top of them.

    Post-mortem tests found the two men died from crush injuries. The Health and Safety Executive is investigating.

    Mr Barker's former school Airedale Academy paid tribute to him, saying he was a "lovely young man with his whole life ahead of him".

    Police investigating a sexual assault in Rotherham last month, have released CCTV images of man they want to talk to.

    It's after 20-year-old woman was allegedly attacked as she walked towards St Ann's Road at around 20:35 on Sunday 21 May.

    Officers say it was an isolated incident and have since increased patrols in the area.

  8. Woman's car stolen at knifepoint in Bradfordpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    A woman has been robbed at knifepoint while she was loading her shopping into her car at a supermarket in Bradford.

    The robbery happened yesterday evening at Asda on Cemetery Road while the 26-year-old was putting her bags into the boot of her white VW Polo.

    A man came up to her with a knife and said he wanted her car keys. He snatched the keys and another man jumped into the passenger seat and they drove off.

    She was unhurt and the car was later found in Randall Place in Manningham.

    The man was attacked while doing DIY at his home and awoke to discover racist graffiti on the wall.

  10. Dragon boats star in Leeds Waterfront Festivalpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    Final preparations are being made ahead of the annual celebration at Leeds waterfront.

    This weekend is the 10th anniversary of the Leeds Waterfront Festival which features, among other things, boat trips, races, food and music.

    A crane is hoisting dragon boats into position at Leeds Dock today, ahead of their race tomorrow.

    Festival organisers say the aim is "to showcase all that is wonderful about life along the canal and river running through the city centre".

  12. Three seriously hurt in collision near Ingletonpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    Three people had to be airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a collision in Ingleton, North Yorkshire.

    The two-vehicle crash happened on the A65 near the Moorgarth Farm Campsite at about 15:30 on Wednesday.

    It involved a light blue Vauxhall Agila and a dark blue Skoda Superb.

    The Vauxhall was being driven south towards Settle by a woman from Bradford and her friend, also from the Bradford area.

    The Skoda was heading in the opposite direction, driven by a man with one female passenger, also from the Bradford area.

    Three people were taken by air ambulance to Preston Hospital and the fourth, who was slightly hurt, was taken by road ambulance to Airedale Hospital.

    Anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact police.

  14. Thugs attack Heckmondwike man and scrawl racist graffitipublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    Burglars who knocked out a man while he worked on his home in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, also daubed racist graffiti on his walls while he was unconscious, police say.

    It happened at his house on Westfield Street on Wednesday as the man was doing DIY while wearing headphones.

    He was struck on his head from behind and he lost consciousness and police say that when he came to he found "racially aggravated graffiti" written on the walls. 

    The man was treated in hospital for a minor injury and the burglars left empty-handed.

  15. Fire checks for cladding on Sheffield tower blockpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    Cladding samples from a block of flats in Sheffield have been sent off for fire checks in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower blaze in which at least 79 people are believed to have died.

    Samples from Harold Lambert Court in Park Hill have been sent by management firm Together Housing for analysis.

    It comes as the Metropolitan Police reveal the Grenfell Tower fire started in a faulty fridge freezer, and outside cladding from the London flats has failed safety tests.

    Insulation on the fire-hit building also failed tests and manslaughter, health and safety and fire safety charges are now being considered by police.

    Police in York have been asked to make sure there's enough security in place at the city's mosque (pictured) this weekend.

    Hundreds are expected to gather there to celebrate Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan.

    It follows events earlier this week where worshippers appeared to be targeted by a man driving a van near Finsbury Park Mosque in London.

  19. Stretched West Yorkshire Police force 'exhausted'published at 14:14 British Summer Time 23 June 2017

    Many police officers in West Yorkshire are "exhausted" as they work long hours to make up for cuts to their workforce, the force's chief constable has said.

    Dee Collins is the latest senior police officer to raise concerns about a lack of government money going to forces across the country.

    The number of West Yorkshire Police officers has fallen by 1,063 over the past 10 years.

    Home secretary Amber Rudd has admitted police resources are "very tight" and need the "right response".

    It's a decade since heavy rain caused devastating floods across Sheffield.

    Today, a plaque has been unveiled at Riverside Park to mark that anniversary.
