The leaders of the county's five councils have written to Downing Street saying they're worried that proposals such as the fast rail link to Manchester could be neglected as Brexit talks begin.

In the letter, the leaders say the Leeds City Region can help re-balance the British economy and help the government's vision of creating a so-called Northern Powerhouse.

They go on to ask that 2017 becomes the year when the county gets devolved government and is allowed to make more decisions on running its own economy.

And the council leaders also ask Theresa May to reaffirm a commitment made by David Cameron's government to create new public transport links for Yorkshire such as the proposed high-speed trans-Pennine rail route.
