Work starts to remove cladding from Sheffield tower blockpublished at 06:53 British Summer Time 27 June 2017
Work starts today to remove cladding from a tower block in Sheffield after it failed new fire tests.
The City Council says it is safe for residents to stay in their homes while work is carried out on Hanover block in Broomhall.
The cladding is not the same as that used on Grenfell tower in London, where at least 79 people were killed in a fire two weeks ago.
Sheffield Council says that one element used in the refurbishment of the tower block failed government tests.
The council say the block is safe as extensive fire stopping and fire prevention work had been carried out.
The metal cladding was added to the 16-storey tower block during a recent refurbishment.
The Government says 75 high rise buildings in England, have now failed fire safety tests ordered after the Grenfell Tower disaster.
