    Policing in part of Sheffield has been stepped up to reassure the public after two stabbings and a shooting last week.

    South Yorkshire Police says five extra officers have been drafted in to the Burngreave area to deal with community tensions and crime.

    They'd already been given more powers to stop and search people, after a fight between Somali and Kurdish gangs there last Wednesday.

    A multi-million pound new hospital wing has been officially opened by Princess Anne.

    The wing at Bradford Royal Infirmary has two children's wards, a 16-bed intensive care unit and dementia wards.

    The Princess Royal met patients and staff as she toured the building.

    The £28m wing is part of a £75m investment by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to improve patient care.

    The new wing provides 104 beds across the two elderly and two children's wards. It also has improved facilities for the family and carers of patients.

    Two South Yorkshire police officers, who were injured in a confrontation with a man wielding an axe have been nominated today for a national Police Bravery Award.

    PC Lisa Bates and PC Mark Garrett had responded to a report of an ongoing domestic incident in Sheffield in April 2016, where a man had been heard making threats to kill a woman.

  6. Yorkshire host towns revealed for 2019 cycling World Championshipspublished at 06:31 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    After months of waiting, its finally been confirmed, Yorkshire is to host one of the worlds most prestigious cycling events, the International Cycling Union Road World Championships.

    Harrogate has been named as the main competition town and finish location for each race and race start locations have been proposed in Beverley, Doncaster, Leeds, Northallerton, Ripon, and York.

    This is a huge event, second only to the Tour de France in the terms of profile and importance.

    Yorkshire will probably need to brace itself for world-wide coverage, hundreds of journalists and tens of thousands of spectators.

    The UCI Road World Championships will see about 1,000 riders from 75 countries competing for the coveted rainbow jersey, organisers said.
