  2. Kellingley Colliery: What the site looks like nowpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    BBC cameras have been allowed inside the former Kellingley Colliery site for the first time since it shut in 2015.

    Up to 3,000 new jobs could be created if plans for the redevelopment of the former pit are approved.

    The 151-acre site will provide almost 1.5m sq ft of manufacturing and distribution space.

    Developers Harworth bought the site in March 2016 and said that they wanted to replace the jobs lost when mining ended.

    The firm say they've spent the last 12 months making the site safe.

  4. Eight-year-old cyclist suffers serious injuries in accidentpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    An eight-year-old boy who was cycling in Tingley has been left with serious injuries after he was knocked off his bike yesterday.

    It happened just before 19:00 on the A650 Bradford Road in Tingley just outside the Capitol Business Park. 

    A car was travelling towards Morley and the boy was crossing on the pedestrian crossing when the accident happened.

    The boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary. Police are appealing for witnesses.

    There's a very special fundraising day happening in York this Sunday which has been organised by local mum Annuola Wilby.

    Marcin and Angelika Klis died as they waited to collect their daughters from the Ariana Grande concert.

    The money raised on Sunday will be given to their family.

    There's been a power failure in Kirkstall this afternoon, most homes are now back on, but the traffic lights are still out.

    Police investigating an armed robbery have released CCTV footage of the crime as it happened in a bid to track down the suspect.

    Do you know the man in this video, officers want to speak to him.

    The robbery was back in December last year at the Post Office at Tinsley shopping centre.

    South Yorkshire Police said: "For legal reasons, we have been unable to release the footage until now but we’re hoping that someone will recognise this man and pass on information.”

  10. No fresh inquest for Northallerton Red Cap killed in Iraq 14 years agopublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    A request by the families of military policemen who were killed in Iraq for a fresh inquest into their deaths has been rejected.

    Lance Corporal Ben Hyde from Northallerton, along with five other red caps, were killed by a 400 strong Iraqi mob when they descended on police station in Majar Al-Kabir.

    In 2014 four of the families, including Ben Hyde's parents, wrote to Attorney General Jeremy Wright seeking leave to apply to the High Court for a new inquest on the grounds that fresh evidence had come to light .

    Mr Wright said he had concluded that none of the grounds of challenge set out had a reasonable "prospect of success" and he could not therefore authorise a referral to the High Court.

    Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, who spent his childhood in Sheffield and is a life-long Blade have announced they're coming to Yorkshire as part of their tour at the end of the year.

    They'll perform at The Spa in Bridlington on Friday 8 December, before rounding off their tour at Sheffield Arena the following night on Saturday 9 December.

    Tickets go on sale next Friday morning at 09:30.

    A film set in Yorkshire has won a top award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF).

    God's Own Country has received the Michael Powell Award for best British feature film.

    The film, which is about the relationship between a Romanian worker and a Yorkshire sheep farmer, is filmmaker Francis Lee's directorial debut.

    Selecting the winner, the jury said the film showed "a singularity of storytelling and consistency of vision".

    Nurses from Yorkshire are handing a ceremonial invoice to the Department of Health in Leeds.

    It's for £91m and the Royal College of Nursing says it's for lost earnings that nurses have missed out on because of a public sector pay cap.

    Yesterday Downing Street signalled the limit on public sector salary rises could be reviewed, as a Labour attempt to scrap the 1% cap was defeated in Parliament.

    An arson attack on Mirfield Fire Station has caused £30,000 worth of damage.

    The incident happened on Saturday 24 June at 06.35BST.

    Police say extensive damage was caused by the fire, including tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage to the structure of the building itself, as well as life-saving equipment.

    Detective Inspector Seth Robinson, of Kirklees CID, said: "This was an abhorrent act by an individual which had the potential to significantly compromise public safety as fire crews from fire crews from two separate stations had to attend to deal with the fire."

  16. Drivers taken to hospital after North Yorkshire crashpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    This is all that remains of two vehicles after they crashed in North Yorkshire earlier today:

    Amazingly and thankfully no-one was seriously hurt in the crash.

    It happened earlier this morning in Grantley near Ripon, the driver of the Discovery (pictured left) had to be cut out by fire crews.

    Both drivers were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not life-threatening.

    A signalling fault is causing major disruption for rail passengers travelling north today.

    The problem is at Dunbar which means there are no services between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

    It's affecting CrossCountry, ScotRail and Virgin Trains East Coast.

    Passengers are being advised to travel tomorrow.

    Check with your operator that your tickets are transferable.
