A fight to save one of the rarest grassland sites in the UK is under way in North Yorkshire as the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust tries to raise £175,000.

Ashes Pasture (pictured) is nestled between the iconic peaks of Pen-y-Ghent and Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales.
The trust has secured a loan to buy the land, but that needs to be paid back. In the first few days of its appeal it's already raised £17,000.

In the next few weeks, the grassland will be dotted with orchids and other flowering plants as well as buzzing bees.
The area is also an important breeding ground for birds such as curlews (pictured) and meadow pipits. Sometimes you might event spot black grouse.
