    The Hepworth in Wakefield has been named UK Museum of the Year.

    Art Fund judges praised the art gallery and museum at a ceremony last night handing it the £100,000 prize.

    It beat off strong competition from the Tate Modern in London.

    Art Fund director Stephen Deuchar said The Hepworth had been "a powerful force of energy from the moment it opened".

    Sheffield University's The Foundry will have its licence reviewed today. We told you earlier in the week about a Police report into the Student's Union building which says it's clear that there's an underlying issue of drugs supply and consumption at the venue.

    22 year old Sheffield Hallam University student Joana Burns died last month after taking ecstasy. She'd been on a night out at the Foundry.

    Acting Chief Inspector Shakeel Ahmed from South Yorkshire Police has been telling us about the work they are doing at the venue.

    If you live in the Harrogate area you're going to be asked again about where you think thousands of new homes should be built.

    There's to be a second consultation on the district's Local Plan because more houses are needed than originally thought.

    Harrogate Council cabinet member Rebecca Burnett says the new consultation will start next week.

    Scarborough's Local Plan involving ten thousand new homes was approved earlier this week.

    In York, the council meets next week to talk about where to put eleven thousand homes.

    Sheffield's Joe Root will become England's 80th test cricket captain later today when he leads his country against South Africa at Lord’s.

    The former King Ecgbert School pupil succeeded Alistair Cook and will bat at number four in the side, with Yorkshire's Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow also in the team.

    It's been several months since he got the job but how does he feel now the big moment is almost here?

  5. New unit to open at Rotherham Hospitalpublished at 07:19 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    A £12.2m urgent and emergency care centre at Rotherham Hospital will open today. It will allow patients to access emergency medicine in what's being described as a different way.

    The Urgent and Emergency Care Centre will provide people in Rotherham with a round the clock service. The new centre is merging the Walk-in Centre staff with the Emergency Department team.

    Prince Harry will pay a visit to West Yorkshire today.

    As part of his two day visit, His Royal Highness will go to Headingley stadium. He's also taking a tour of the new Haribo factory in Castleford.

    Herwig Vennekens is the MD for Haribo UK, he says it's going to be a special day for the whole company.
