    E-fit pictures have been released of two men police want to speak to after a 91-year-old man was conned out of cash in Doncaster.

    It happened on 21 June when two men went to the man's house on Oxford Road in Rossington to ask for money for work they had done on his house.

    The men said that they'd come back with a recipt the next day. They called again and one of them took the man to the back of the house where the work had been done.

    When the elderly man went back inside, he realised that a large amount of cash had been taken.

    A new marking system aimed at stemming and eliminating the rising tide of sheep rustling in North Yorkshire is being trialled on a Moors farm near Castleton.

    TecTracer has been developed by York-based Trace-in-Metal, which pioneered a marking system to protect church roofs from lead thieves, and has now adapted its use for safeguarding sheep.

    The TecTracer team are hoping to join forces with North Yorkshire Police to launch "Operation Bo Peep."

    A Polish man who has recently moved to Doncaster is appealing for help to integrate with the local community.

    Maciej Gabryś posted on Facebook asking people for advice on possible jobs he could apply for where he would be working with English people.

    The 32-year-old said he also wanted to learn more about the English language, as well as the culture and history of the region and country.

    "I am in England, and I want to know England," he added.

  10. Bird thieves kill barn owl chickspublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Two barn owl chicks have been killed and an adult and fledged chick stolen from a nesting box in North Yorkshire.

    Last Monday the thieves used ladders to get a man-made barn owl box down from an oak tree between Sheriff Hutton and Bulmer.

    A male and female had been successfully rearing chicks there for the last seven years and were being watched by locals.

    Police say that the birds seem to have been stolen to order and wild barn owls are protected by law.

  11. Northern warns travellers over strike timetablepublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Northern say that they have operated 770 services in the north of England today, on the last day of a three-day strike by workers, but say that services will be affected tonight.

    The company say that travellers "should think carefully about their plans" after 17:00 though as they'll begin to "wind down" their services after then.

    The union is in dispute with the company over driver-only-operated trains, which it says would be unsafe and lead to widespread job losses.

    "The threat to abolish guards and introduce driver-only-operated trains is only part of the wider attack on rail services," said the RMT.

    Two schoolboys have been approached by a man driving a car in Sheffield, who asked them to get into his vehicle.

    The 12-year-old boys were walking to school on Thursday 6 July, at 08:30, when a pale blue Citroen C3 stopped near to Outwood Academy in Woodhouse.

    The man is reported to have verbally abused the boys before they ran off toward Stradbroke Road.

    Parents and pupils are being advised to be vigilant however police are reassuring the community that this is an isolated incident.

    The man behind a Halloween "ride-out" which brought a major route into Leeds to a standstill says he organised it to raise money for charity.

    More than 100 bikers took to the streets of the city and caused chaos as they rode up and down Kirkstall road and rode onto pedestrianised areas of the city centre in October last year.

    David Armitage, 26 of Brookfield Road, set up the event on Facebook and claims to have raised around £400 for the family of a murdered teenager, Leeds Crown Court heard.

    Police received around 160 calls from the public on the night of the disturbance.

    All 13 defendants pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to "causing a publicnuisance by participating in a large-scale procession of motorbikes and similar vehicles that rode around Leeds in a manner that interfered with the comfort, enjoyment and safety of the public".

  15. Terror advice video for holidaymakers shows hotel attackpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    A video advising UK holidaymakers what to do in the event of a terror attack abroad has been released by police.

    The four-minute film depicts a firearms attack unfolding at a hotel and uses the "run, hide, tell" safety message.

    Thirty British tourists were among 38 people killed when a gunman attacked a Tunisian beach resort in June 2015.

    Counter terrorism police said there is no specific intelligence Britons will be targeted this summer and the film is part of a general awareness campaign.

  16. Leeds-based race walker sets world recordpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    A race walker from Leeds has set a new world record at the London Anniversary Games.

    Tom Bosworth walked one mile in five minutes 31.08 seconds yesterday.

    It ends a 26-year-old record, wiping six seconds off the previous best time.

    Doncaster's railway station is getting an upgrade, with the car park being transformed into an open and attractive public space.

    These new artist impressions show what the station could look like, with a £500,000 glass canopy being installed at the front of the station building.

    Part of the plans include changing the drop-off facilities and a dedicated taxi rank to ease the traffic flow.

    The work has been paid for by Virgin Trains, who own the station, and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, with Sheffield City Region contributing £7m to the project.

  18. Routes around Bradford to be resurfacedpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    If your daily life involves driving around Bradford, bad news; there are about to be a load of road works around the city and beyond.

    The council are resurfacing some routes, which when they're done will be nice and smooth, but where there's gain, there's usually a bit of pain first.

    Here's where they'll be doing it:

    • A650 Tong Street, Tong junction with Bradford Heckmondwike Road
    • A641 Huddersfield Road, Wyke , Green Lane to Whitehall Road
    • C111 Lilycroft Road, Manningham, Toller Lane to Heaton Road
    • A647 Leeds Road (outbound), Bradford, Vicar Lane to Shipley Airedale Road
    • C111 Duckworth Lane, Heaton, St Leonards Road to Crow Tree Lane
    • A6177 Carlisle Road, Manningham, Lumb Lane to Carlisle Place
    • A647 Leeds Road, Thornbury junction with Killinghall Road and Laisterdyke
    • A650 Tong Street, Tong junction with Weaverthorpe Road
    • C111 Bradford Road, Clayton, Green End to Deep Lane.

    Bradford Council say that the work will happen between now and September and that thery'll be trying to do most of the work during the weekends.

  19. One dead after Sheffield Parkway crashpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    An 88-year-old woman has died after a crash on the Sheffield Parkway on Saturday night.

    Two others were injured in the crash which is believed to have been caused by a car on the wrong side of the road.

    The crash happened just after 20:00 near to the turn off for the Parkway Markets when a Honda Jazz and a Sokda Fabia collided.

    A passenger in the Honda died at the scene.

    Two women, aged 71 and 74, who were also passengers in the Honda, were taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries.

    The 71-year-old woman’s condition is described as critical but stable condition while the 74-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition.

    The driver of the Honda, a 73-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    He currently remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

    A 40-year-old man who was driving the Skoda, also remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

    Police are appealing for information.
