    A new report out today reveals Yorkshire spent £850m on takeaways last year.

    The British Takeaway Campaign also showed the industry supports 23 thousand jobs in the region.

    The average spending on takeaways is £30 a month per household. That means the takeaway sector is actually a key factor in the UK's economic growth.

    But it's not all good news. The British Take Away campaign is worried that these small, often family run businesses, are facing many challenges from increasing business rates to concerns about skills shortages.

    Two men have been arrested after one of them was stabbed in in Lowedges yesterday.

    It happened on Gresley Road at around 17:45 after what police are describing as a domestic incident involving two men and a woman.

    The man who was stabbed is being treated in hospital for none life threatening injuries. He was arrested for affray, assault and driving while unfit.

    A second male was arrested over the stabbing and is in custody.

  3. Police search for two missing girls last seen near York Minsterpublished at 08:56 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Police in York are searching for two teenage girls who have gone missing.

    Thi Phan, 15, and 14-year-old Tram Le, were last seen in the area around York Minster at around 12:30 yesterday.

    The girls, originally from Vietnam but now living in the York area, are both around 5ft 2ins tall.

    Tram Le (pictured above right) was wearing a blue and white top and black trousers. Thi Phan (pictured above left) was wearing jeans and a baggy shirt.

    Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.

    The Great Yorkshire Show gets underway tomorrow, and one exhibitor is hoping her day job will help her do well in the agricultural competition.

    Pamela Lupton, from Ripon, breeds and shows Suffolk sheep, but by day she's also a hairdresser.

    She says her salon skills help her to make her flock look first class and she's hoping the extra glow of Pansy the sheep, will help her chances of picking up an award.

    It's been a busy weekend in Sheffield city centre, with Cliffhanger festival making it's second appearance.

    It's previously been held in Graves Park, but was moved to the city centre last year.

    The police officers who arrested the man who murdered Jo Cox are to receive awards for bravery.

    PCs Craig Nicholls (pictured left) and Jonathan Wright, caught Thomas Mair, after he murdered the MP in her constituency last year.

    They pursued him unarmed, despite knowing he may have a gun and a knife.

    The pair, who were honoured by West Yorkshire Police last month, are now being recognised by the Police Federation Bravery Awards.

    PC Nicholls said: "On the day this happened, we were not due on patrol but our training was cancelled.

    "When we heard what was happening we went straight to the area - we knew who we were looking for and what we were going towards but we knew that if he wasn't stopped he could hurt someone else."

  7. Two top teams together for two more yearspublished at 08:00 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Leeds United say they are delighted to announce a two-year extension to the club's partnership with BBC Radio Leeds.

    The station is to continue to provide commentary on all Leeds United games for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, with commentator Adam Pope and former Whites forward, Noel Whelan.

    Speaking about the deal, Managing Director, Angus Kinnear, said: "We are really pleased with the extension, the relationship with BBC Radio Leeds is strong and it provides us with a great platform to grow connections with our supporters.

    BBC Radio Leeds Sports Editor, Gareth Jones, said: "We are delighted to extend our commentary deal with Leeds United and continue to build on the strong relationship we have with the club."

    Commentator, Adam Pope, looks fairly happy with the deal too, as he shakes on it with Leeds manager, Thomas Christiansen.

    People in Doncaster have offered a warm welcome to a Polish immigrant who asked for help to integrate.

    Maciej Gabrys posted on a local Facebook page asking for help to fit in to his new town.

    People responded with messages of good luck, job adverts and advice.

    There's growing concern that children in North Yorkshire are being put at risk by using a new phone app.

    Snapchat's latest maps feature, Snap Map, lets users share their exact location.

    But, there are fears it means children who use the social media app can be tracked.

    Schools, North Yorkshire Police and now North Yorkshire County Council have all issued safeguarding warnings to parents.

    Teenage Snapchat fans, Megan and Lola, from Millthorpe School in York, say they fear people using the app to stalk them:

    The company stressed that location sharing on Snap Map was off by default, was an opt-in feature and could be switched off at any time.

  12. Sheffield's Iman FM to challenge suspension over 'terror talks'published at 07:11 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    A Sheffield radio station, suspended over broadcasting what are described as terror talks, says it will challenge OFCOM's ruling to take it off air.

    Community radio station Iman FM, in Attercliffe, had it's licence suspended for airing lectures by an alleged a radical Muslim cleric, Anwar Al-Alwaki.

    Ofcom launched an investigation of the station after a member of the public complained about the content of the lectures.

    The regulator said, external parts of the material was "likely to encourage or incite crime or lead to disorder".

    The station said it had downloaded and broadcast Awlaki's lectures during Ramadan, despite not having listened to them in their entirety beforehand.

  13. Rail strikes to hit Northern, Southern and Merseyrailpublished at 06:56 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Passengers on three train companies across England will see action by striking union members today.

    Northern staff are on the last day of a three-day strike, while Merseyrail staff are on strike for the day and also plan action on 23 July.

    Southern workers plan to walk out on a one-day strike.

    The RMT union is in dispute with the companies over driver-only-operated trains (pictured) which it says would be unsafe and lead to widespread job losses.

    "The threat to abolish guards and introduce driver-only-operated trains is only part of the wider attack on rail services," said the RMT.

    The union said the dispute is not about pay or conditions but strike action is over "concern about passenger safety".

    In April RMT members demonstrated against the proposals and to mark the one-year anniversary of its dispute with Southern rail.

    Police are investigating an attempted murder in Dewsbury after a woman was found with stab wounds at a house.

    The woman, who's said to be in her 20s, was found with life threatening injuries in Gladstone Court, in the early hours of yesterday morning. Her condition is said to be serious but stable.

    A 25-year-old woman was arrested nearby and is now in custody.

    Detectives want to talk to anyone who was in the area at the time or who has any information.
