Three Yorkshire locations are to be part of a new government scheme designed to help prospects for young people.
Doncaster, Bradford and Scarborough have been selected along with nine other towns and cites across the country, to receive help from the chief executive of the Education Endowment Foundation, Sir Kevan Collins
Sir Kevan will be known as an "evidence champion" tasked with gathering information as to what does and does not work in a classroom environment.
The Rotherham-born education minister Justine Greening made the announcement to try and combat what she called a "social mobility emergency".
Ms Greening added that she hoped the project would help schools in these areas "improve standards" and would lead to a "plan that everyone can buy into at a local and the national level."

Andy Burnham has been speaking to me at the "People's Powerhouse" conference which has been taking place in Doncaster today.
In a speech, the Mayor of Greater Manchester warned that in the past developers have rushed up new buildings without serious consideration of the impact on communities where these sites were being built.
He also urged council leaders across Yorkshire to sort out their devolution deals and stated that he felt delays in getting elected mayors in our region is holding back all of the north of England:

A farmer in Ryedale told the BBC it's been one of the most upsetting things he's seen.
It's thought they died after being chased by dogs around their field near Huttons Ambo last month, before running into fences.
North Yorkshire Police say so far this year it's had 15 reported cases of sheep worrying.

The Special Olympics takes place in Sheffield next month.
The event will see hundreds of athletes compete across a variety of sports and begins with an opening ceremony at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane hosted by Suzi Perry.
Sheffield's former world number one squash player Nick Matthew is an ambassador for the charity and told me how excited he is about the event coming to South Yorkshire:

We've all done silly things when we were young, and it's no different for our bovine friends.
This is Daisy the cow (why are they always called Daisy?), she got stuck in some rocks in Holmfirth this morning:
The four-month-old Belgian Blue female calf got into trouble in woodland in a disused quarry after she wandered off from the rest of the herd in a field near Brow Lane.
It's thought she'd been there overnight and was spotted by a dog walker.
The fire service got there and began to remove the rocks, one of which weighed three tonnes, and Daisy was put in a harness and hoisted up.

Daisy was fine and was soon back in her field munching on the grass with her bovine friends.

Officials in York say they're cracking down on the fraudulent use of disabled blue badges.
City of York Council say they're holding a two-week amnesty from Monday so people can return invalid badges without question.
But once that fortnight is over, they're going to get tough with a series of "enforcement patrols" being planned across the city in the coming months.
It is a problem across the UK and is thought to cost the country £46 million a year. Someone found misusing a blue badge faces prosecution and a £1,000 fine.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance are looking for volunteers in a variety of roles.
The charity provides a life-saving service to five million people across the county, 365 days a year and they're looking for people to help do tasks from pack fundraising bags to being out on the street taking donations.

A ram raider who stole booze from a shop he'd just smashed into has admitted the crimes.
Shane William Greenwood, 30, plead guilty at Sheffield Crown Court to smashing a vehicle into two shops in February.
One location was on Church Street in Darton and another minutes later a mile down the road at Spark Lane in Mapplewell.
He caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and stole alcohol from the second location.
He will be sentenced next month.
Kelsie, 10, was given a hand made by the University of Huddersfield's 3D printing society.

It's after two arson attacks in the city last year which officers are now saying were linked.
The attacks happened in Armley in December. The first on a car on Cockshott Lane and the second at a shop in the same street.

Have you seen this man? Police in York want to speak to him after a man was stabbed on Saturday.
Officers say that 28-year-old Dean Barrett may be able to help them after the attack on Etty Avenue, Layerthorpe at about midnight.
Two men have been arrested and released on bail but North Yorkshire Police they still need to find out more about what happened.
They say Mr Barrett is still thought to be in York and that if people see him they should call them on 101.
