    A man has been arrested in Castleford after a sexual offence was committed against a child under 18 at Asda in Glashoughton.

    Officers said they had stepped up patrols in the area after the incident sometime after 14:30 on Saturday.

    The victim is still receiving support from West Yorkshire Police.

    Sheffield Chamber of Commerce executive director Richard Wright has called for a "definitive statement" on a devolution deal for the region.

    Mr Wright will head to a meeting with fellow leaders later this month and is keen to avoid further "procrastination" and address the current "big void".

  13. University of Sheffield to lead a multi-million wind power projectpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    The University of Sheffield will head up a collaboration with the University of Hull and the University of Durham to help improve the UK's offshore wind power technologies.

    A grant of £7.6m will be given to the institutions to work with two private companies, on a five-year programme to address problems that will help to reduce the cost of electricity from offshore wind.

    As part of this Sheffield will create the largest joint industry-academic wind power research partnership in the UK, which is hoped will help strengthen the city's position as a world leader in wind power research.

    The RSPCA was contacted by a man who'd spotted the lone pup on the beach at Fylingthorpe, near Whitby.

    He's been nicknamed Wallace and is being treated at Scarborough's Sea Life Centre for a deep wound inside his mouth and an ear infection.

  15. Brexit repeal bill: Leeds MP questions timetablepublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    MPs must "work together" on Brexit, the minister in charge of the UK's EU exit has said, as he published a bill to convert EU law into British law.

    But some MPs are already raising questions over the bill, including a Leeds MP.

    The legislation, known as the repeal bill, external, will ensure the same rules apply in the UK after Brexit, while giving the UK Parliament power to change them.

    Brexit Secretary David Davis said he would "work with anyone" to make it a success, but he faces opposition.

    Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron told the government: "This will be hell".

    Labour's shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer has made clear his party would not support the Bill in its current form.

  16. NHS wants 999 response times to be lowerpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    The National Health Service has set out plans for new targets for how quickly ambulances should reach patients following a trial which included the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

    It's been decided that 90% of the most serious calls, such as when people aren't breathing, will now need to be reached within 15 minutes, previously it was 75% of these 999 emergencies be reached in eight minutes.

    The NHS says response times will be quicker than that, because fewer calls will be classed as life-threatening.

  17. Newly found WW2 paperwork raises questions about a Sheffield manpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    Sheffield Archives has recently discovered an eyewitness account from a Sheffield Blitz survivor relating to the bombing of the Marples Hotel in Sheffield city centre during World War Two.

    The paperwork was misfield at the time and include the words of 27-year-old Lionel George Ball:

    That man was later identified to be Frank Dalton from Pitsmoor in Sheffield, who had told his wife that he was leaving South Yorkshire for a mission with the RAF.

  18. Burberry to 'remain in Yorkshire'published at 15:39 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    Burberry says that their pulling out of the redevelopment of the Grade I listed Temple Works in Leeds was "simply and strictly" a matter of one site falling out of favour and that they will still invest in the city.

    Chief executive Marco Gobbetti said "There are other (sites), and we will remain there. We will remain in Yorkshire."

    He added that "We are going to invest in Leeds, we are going ahead with our plans in Leeds."

    Yesterday, it was revealed that the fashion retailer had allowed their lease on the historical Leeds building to lapse, leaving the future of the building uncertain.

    Some people don't muck about when it comes to marriage proposals, like army veteran Luke Davison.

    He asked his girlfriend Ashley Addy to marry him at the Great Yorkshire Show today.... with a plane.

    Luke and Ashley have been to the show every year since they met in 2014 becuase of Ashley's love of horses.

    Gas engineer Luke was formerly with the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment and served on two tours of Afghanistan and Ashley is an office manager.

    Oh, and she said yes by the way.

  20. Vapers warned over e-cigarette problempublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    People who use a particular Kanger Tech E-cigarette kit are being warned to stop using it immediately because of the risk of overheating and ultimately exploding.

    West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has drawn attention to advice from Electrical Safety First, external about the potential danger from some of the kit.

    They say that you need to check for model number VT 320mAh and the risk lies in the fact that the product has "no charging cut-off function"

    It means there is a risk the battery could overheat during charging and that you should stop using it and contact the seller.
