  1. Did you see masked group attack?published at 14:48 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    A gang of masked men attempted to attack another group in a confrontation in Batley.

    Police are now appealing for information following the incident.

    Kirklees District CID want information about the stand-off on Healey Lane in the town which happened between 18:30 and 19:00 on July 11.

    The unmasked men fled into a nearby convenience store on Healey Road and blocked the door.

    The masked group attempted to get in and caused damage to the door before leaving the scene.

    No-one was injured in the disorder incident.

    DC Nicole Rubio-Senior who is investigating the incident, said: “We are investigating this incident and would like to speak to anyone who saw this group of six masked men attack three males in the car park, or who saw the group causing damage to the front of the shop.

    “It is believed the attack on the men was a targeted offence and it must be stressed that such behaviour will absolutely not be tolerated in our communities.”

    Yesterday was a big day for Barnsley's Katherine Brunt.

    Not only did she play a part in helping England beat New Zealand to qualify for the semi finals of the Womens World Cup but that match was also the 100th time she's pulled on a one-day shirt for her country.

    Coroners in Leeds are appealing for information to help trace the relatives of John Donaghy from Gledhow.

    Mr Donaghy, 68, of Lincombe Drive, died at his home address on 7 July. He died of natural causes.

    Mr Donaghy is thought to have links to Ireland.

    Anyone with information on the relatives of Mr Donaghy is asked to contact Coroner's Officer Debbie Howarth on 01924 292 301.

    A man from Nottingham has gone missing in Leeds after a night out with a friend.

    Jeremy Lancaster, 24 from Sherwood, had gone to a gig in the city but hasn't been seen since late last night.

    He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt with "Abandoned Ship" written on it.

    Officers say they are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare and if anyone knows where he might be to get in touch urgently.

    A man has been left with facial injuries and a broken collar bone after a road rage attack in Whitby.

    It happened in the centre of the town on Langbourne Road between 17:30 and 18:00 yesterday and involved a grey Ford Fiesta and a black 4x4.

    The driver of the Fiesta was injured and police are asking the public for help in tracing the driver of the 4x4.

    Weddings abroad are becoming more and more popular these days, usually on a sunny beach somewhere. But a groom from Yorkshire is due to tie-the-knot this weekend - in Antarctica!

    Sheffield man Tom Sylvester is due to marry his fiance Julie Baum at the Rothera Research Station.

    It'll be the first official wedding to take place in the British Antarctic Territory.

    The couple, who have been together for 11 years, will share their special day with 20 fellow "over-winterers" and will have a two-day celebration.

    Julie, assisted by some of the women on station, is making her own wedding dress.

    I hope it's a warm one - the temperature this weekend is a balmy -52C.

    Sheffield Hallam University has been chosen by the Football Association to be one of eight new High Performance centres for women's football.

    A passenger who was in a taxi in Leeds has been stabbed by a man he was sharing his cab with.

    It happened at 05:15 this morning in the Harehills area of the city; a 30-year-old man is still receiving treatment in hospital.

    The driver had picked them up from the town centre and drove them to Nowell Mount where the attack happened inside the taxi.

    The suspect is described as Asian, wearing a dark t-shirt, khaki shorts, black trainers and a baseball cap. Police say they believe the men knew each other.

    South Yorkshire Police have updated us following an incident on Deerlands Avenue in the Parson Cross area of Sheffield last weekend.

    The force have now charged two men with attempted murder, in relation an incident where a man suffered serious injuries in the early hours of Sunday morning.

    The men charged have been named as 19-year-old Kyle Chambers of Holgate Road in Sheffield and Mark Rodgers, who's 26 and lives at Remington Drive, also in Sheffield.

    They have now both been remanded into custody to appear before Sheffield Crown Court on 8 August 2017.

  14. Three men arrested after Huddersfield attackpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    Three men have been arrested after a man and a woman were attacked with a knife in Huddersfield on Tuesday night.

    It happened on Larch Road and the victims, a 30-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were left with "life changing injuries". They're still in hospital.

    The men aged 27, 34 and 37, all from Huddersfield have been arrested for attempted murder and remain in police custody.

  15. Rediscovered 'Brontes painting could make £40,000'published at 11:40 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    A painting thought to be a previously unknown portrait of the three Bronte sisters is expected to make up to £40,000 at auction.

    The watercolour, attributed to Queen Victoria's favourite artist Sir Edwin Landseer, is being sold by JP Humbert, external, of Whittlebury, Northamptonshire.

    Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert decided to pull the picture from an auction in 2012 so more research could be done.

    Mr Humbert said he believed the picture to be of "national importance".

    As you can see from the traffic camera, delays continue and although there is a signed diversion, it is having a knock-on effect on the M62 as well.

    Some good news though for the M1 in South Yorkshire. That stretch of the motorway has returned to normal following an accident northbound towards J31 (Sheffield south).

    Four years ago 11-year-old Harry Whitlam was knocked down and killed at a farm in Rothwell.

    The man who was driving the tractor that took the boy's life was drunk but couldn't be prosecuted for drink-driving, as it happened on private land.

    He did go to jail for 16 months and two weeks under health and safety legislation, rather than road traffic law.

    There's a debate in parliament later about a possible change in the law and Harry's mother Pamela wants to see this legal loop-hole closed:

    Officers say they have stepped up patrols in the Glashoughton area after the incident sometime after 14:30 on Saturday at Asda.

    The victim, who was aged under 18, is still receiving support from West Yorkshire Police.

    Parents are backing calls to allow schools greater flexibility when it comes to taking their children to events like the Great Yorkshire Show.

    It's after a recent high court ruling cracked down on parents taking their children out of school, unless a head teacher agrees to it.

    This family I spoke to didn't think twice about taking their children to show for the day rather than the classroom:

    Organisers say the three day show should be seen as an educational benefit for youngsters.
