It comes as councils, who look after them, are facing ever tighter budgets which means that money for open spaces is getting tighter too.

  10. More diversity needed in West Yorkshire's classroomspublished at 08:25 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    ClassroomImage source, Thinkstock

It comes as BBC research shows just over a quarter of pupils in Yorkshire are from an ethnic minority background - compared with only 8% of teaching staff.

The teaching union NASUWT says more needs to be done to tackle racism in the education system, which they describe as ‘deep-rooted, endemic and institutionalised’.

But figures do show that there is change with the number of teachers from an ethnic background growing by 25%, compared to a 2% rise in white British staff.

It’s almost self-perpetuating. If, as an individual you don’t see someone like yourself as a teacher, then it’s harder to envisage you taking that career move."

    Adam Pinder-Smith
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

Seperate incidents on both the north and soutbound of the M1 are causing disruption across Yorkshire this morning.

Firstly northbound, two lanes are closed between J30 (Worksop) and J31 (Sheffield South) due to an accident and as you can see from the camera delays are continuing to build:

M1 northbound at junction 30Image source, Highways Agency

Once through that, the nortbound side is also suffering at J33 (Rotherham) as a broken down vehicle on the exit slip road means traffic is finding it difficult to leave the carriageway.

Meanwile, in West Yorkshire a lane is closed southbound between J42 (M62 interchange) and J41 (Carrgate) after reports of a pedestrian on the road but traffic through that stretch seems to be coping well, looking at speed sensors and cameras.
