    A ten-year-old boy who had to have his favourite Huddersfield Town shirt cut off after a car crash has been on the receiving end of an amazing gesture by the firefighters who saved him.

    Back in February Mason Faulkner (above bottom left) along with his younger brother Elliott were involved in a serious car crash. They managed to crawl out of the back of the car while their mum and a family friend were trapped in the front.

    The boys sustained chest and abdominal injuries, but he told firefighters that he didn't want his new Huddersfield FC shirt damaging, but when he got to hospital nurses has to cut it off to treat him.

    Today West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue gave Mason the suprise of his life when they took him to Town's training ground to have the grand tour and give him a brand new Terriers shirt.

  3. Yorkshire stately home statues used to settle tax billpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Marble statues and urns from a collection at Castle Howard, near Malton, have been acquired for the nation to settle a £5.5m tax bill.

    Almost 90 antiquities - some of which were collected by the Fourth Earl of Carlisle, during a tour of Europe in the 18th century - have been allocated to the National Museums Liverpool, but remain on display at Castle Howard.

  5. Police Helicopter sex film: Cleared officers to face force inquirypublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    South Yorkshire Police say they will carry out internal misconduct proceedings relating to four police officers who were cleared in court of filming people naked or having sex in the open from the force helicopter.

    South Yorkshire Police officers Matthew Lucas, 42 (top left) and Lee Walls, 47 (top right), and pilots Matthew Loosemore, 45 (bottom left) and Malcolm Reeves, 64 (bottom right), were charged after another officer shot the footage.

    They were acquitted following a three week trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

    Adrian Pogmore, 50, who filmed the scenes admitted misconduct in a public office will be sentenced on Tuesday.

    He has already been sacked by South Yorkshire Police.

    A man from Batley has been jailed for six years for terrorism offences after he told an undercover police officer he wanted to join so-called Islamic State.

    Ghulam Hussain, 31, of Track Road pleaded guilty last month to two offences of the preparation of terrorist acts.

    Officers had found that Hussain had bought plane tickets and wanted to join IS and fight in Syria.

    He had fraudulent credit cards and was going to use them to fund his trip.

    Hussain was also charged with providing money and advice to an undercover officer with the intention being to assist another to commit an act of terrorism.

    A police officer who admitted filming people from the force helicopter who were sunbathing naked and having sex will be sentenced next Tuesday.

    Adrian Pogmore, aged 51 from Guilthwaite Crescent in Whiston, Rotherham, admitted misconduct in public office.

    Four other crew members who faced charges told Sheffield Crown Court they weren't aware of what he was doing and were cleared of all charges.

    Pogmore has been sacked by South Yorkshire Police.

  9. Van and garage burned in arson attackpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    A van has been set alight in an arson attack yesterday in Denby Dale near Wakefield.

    Police say that at about 23:30 last night on Gilthwaites Crescent a container of fluid was thrown over a van outside a house which then ignited.

    The fire caused damage to the van and the nearby garage also set alight.

    After starting the fire the suspect then ran off, police said.

    The Special Olympics' Flame of Hope is making its way through South Yorkshire ahead of the games taking place in Sheffield next week.

    It arrived in Barnsley at 10:30 this morning and was carried through the town's market just after 11:00.

    This afternoon the flame arrived in Doncaster where special guests, including Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson, greeted the travelling party.

    The flame will arrive in Sheffield on Tuesday morning before making its way through the city to Bramall Lane for the opening ceremony that afternoon.

    Two police officers and two pilots accused of misusing a police helicopter to film naked sunbathers and a couple having sex have been cleared of all charges at Sheffield Crown Court.

  13. Dangerous driver jailed over death of Harrogate womanpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    A man has been jailed for more than five years for causing the death of a Harrogate woman.

    Simeon Denny, aged 29, from Checkers Close, Pontefract, pleaded guilty at York Crown Court to causing death by dangerous driving and driving over the prescribed limit for both alcohol and cannabis.

    He was sentenced to five years and nine months imprisonment, for causing the death of 50-year-old Carol Jones, by dangerous driving. He was also banned from the roads for six and a half years.

    Denny drove his BMW 1 series at high speed through a red light at the junction of Otley Road and Cold Bath Road in Harrogate and collided with Ms Jones' vehicle who was travelling to work at Harrogate Police Station.

    Chief Constable Dave Jones said “We all still feel the loss of our friend and colleague Carol, who was a valued member of our policing family. She was a credit to the force."

  14. Sheffield man jailed for historical sex abuse of teenagerpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    A Sheffield man who subjected a teenager to years of sexual abuse almost two decades ago is beginning a seven year jail sentence for his crimes.

    Stephen Martin, aged 64, of Holgate Avenue in Parson Cross, groomed his 14-year-old victim by giving him sweets and presents before going on to abuse him.

    Martin was found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity at Sheffield Crown Court.

  16. CCTV of car towing man in wheelchair in Harrogate releasedpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    CCTV footage of a man in a wheelchair being towed by a car has been released by police.

    William MacPherson, 28, was captured holding on to the back of the Hyundai Coupe, which was driven by 20-year-old Michael Ward, while being dragged along a number of streets in Harrogate in January.

    The pair were both sentenced at Harrogate Magistrates Court last month.

    North Yorkshire Police said the pair had "acted selfishly and dangerously" with no regard for road safety.

    A woman is in a critical but stable condition after being found with stab wounds in Bradford last night.

    Police went to a house on Idle Road, Swain House at about 23:20 after a call about a disturbance.

    When officers arrived they found a woman in her twenties with stab wounds. She's being treated in hospital and is in a critical but stable condition.

    A 32-year-old man from Bradford has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

  18. Appeal by Sheffield mum after hit-and-runpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    A Sheffield mother has made an emotional appeal for witnesses after her little girl was left traumatised after a hit and run crash in the city.

    The six-year-old was hit by a moped which was being ridden on the pavement on Queen Mary Road , Woothorpe.

    The girl's mother said "As a mother, you never want anything to happen to your child and I’m incredibly grateful that this wasn’t a more serious incident."

    Her daughter is still affected by what happened and is very nervous when she is out in public even though the incident happened more than a month ago.

    Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of the 2020-21 season.

    The 21-year-old academy graduate has made 45 league appearances for the Elland Road side.

    He told the club website:, external "I joined the club when I was 14 and grew up in Leeds, so to sign a contract extension is an honour."

    Leeds start the Championship season with a trip to Bolton on Sunday.
