    Almost £2m seized from criminals has been given to good causes across West Yorkshire.

    The Safer Communities Fund provides grants to community groups and charities through money recovered by police under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

    The fund has supported projects such as a programme to educate young people on child sexual exploitation and an initiative to improve road safety.

    The pair both started for the Lionesses last night but they lost 3-0, with the third strike being an own-goal by Bright in injury time.

    Wildlife presenter Chris Packham is campaigning for an end to grouse shooting on Ilkley Moor, calling it "moorland vandalism".

    He made his comments in a statement to moor owners Bradford Council ahead of the grouse shooting season next week.

    The council said it permits shooting for eight days each year, under a contract to be reviewed in 2018.

    Ilkley Moor is the last publicly owned place in the UK to allow grouse shooting during the season.

    Chris Packham addressed council leader Susan Hinchcliffe in a letter sent by the group Ban Bloodsports on Ilkley Moor.

    He said the practice was "ecologically disastrous".

    A council spokesperson said when the current contract ends all representations would be considered before a decision to renew or not was made.

    People living in York will be able to have their say over plans for a new road into the city centre.

    It's needed so multi-million pound plans to develop the 'York Central' site can go ahead, bringing thousands of new homes and news jobs.

    However, it's surrounded by railway lines so a new route to it will be needed - there are several potential options including a new bridge over the East Coast Mainline.

    The plans go online in just over a fortnights time, and four public events for people to have their say are being held later this month and in September.

    Sheffield should bid again for the title of UK City Of Culture according to a former council leader.

    Sheffield was shortlisted in 2010 but beaten by Derry - which became City of Culture in 2013.

    Lord Paul Scriven says the success of Derry and current host city Hull show the value of the title.

    Two teenagers have been charged with attempted murder following a series of shootings in Huddersfield.

    A taxi driver was wounded in one of the incidents.

    Campaigners in Sheffield are trying to raise the capital to refurbish their local pub.

    The Plough in Crosspool was registered as an asset of community value earlier this year and now locals are trying to raise £120,000 to refurbish the pub and get the business up and running.

    They're looking for people to buy shares in the pub of between £250 and £20,000.

    A fight over a girl between two teenage boys ended with one of them being stabbed to death, a court has heard.

    Irfan Wahid, 16, died in hospital after being attacked in Harehills Lane, Leeds, during the afternoon of 10 February.

    He died from a single stab wound to the chest.

    A 16-year-old, who cannot be publicly named because of his age, has denied murder and manslaughter charges.

    Yorkshire's towns and cities are being given the the chance to bid for millions of pounds - to spend on culture and technology.

    The Culture Secretary's announced grants of up to £4m will be available to support cultural projects - such as renovating live music venues or to encourage new technical innovations.

    It's hoped the money will help them build a 'lasting legacy' from next year's Great Exhibition of the North which will take place in Newcastle and Gateshead next summer.

    The idea of the exhibition is to showcase art, design and innovation from across the north.

    The actor Robert Hardy, star of TV series All Creatures Great and Small, who became a household name in the 1970's, when he played Siegfrid Farnon in the North Yorkshire-based BBC series, has died aged 91.

    His family said he had a "tremendous life" and "a giant career in theatre, television and film spanning more than 70 years".

    He was also known for numerous portrayals of Winston Churchill.

    In more recent years, he appeared as Cornelius Fudge, the Minister for Magic, in four of the Harry Potter films.
