    Five men charged over the Hillsborough disaster and its aftermath have appeared in court.

    The men, including ex-South Yorkshire Police (SYP) chief inspector Sir Norman Bettison, attended Warrington Magistrates' Court in Cheshire.

    No formal pleas were given for four of the men but former club secretary at Sheffield Wednesday Graham Mackrell pleaded not guilty.

    All five men were bailed to attend Preston Crown Court on 6 September.

    Former Ch Supt David Duckenfield, who is also facing charges over the 1989 disaster, was not required to attend.

    Brinsworth in Rotherham is set to get a new library building to replace the existing one - which is over 40 years old and in a bad state of repair.

    Five men charged with offences relating to the Hillsborough disaster and its aftermath have appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court.

    They have been bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on 6 September.

    A 32 year old man has died after a collision between his motorbike and a car.

    It happened at 14:20 on Monday when the motorcycle collided with a Ford Fusion car on Top Road in Barnby Dun.

    The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, his family has been informed.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.

    Just days after the news Northallerton's Friarage hospital is now advertising in Holland, Italy, Spain and Greece, to fill jobs, the government's announced a new recruitment initiative.

    It's been revealed that an extra 500 medical school places are to be made available in England next year to try to boost the number of homegrown doctors in the NHS.

    Ministers want to increase the number of training places by 1,500 by 2020 - a rise of a 25%.

    North Yorkshire's wonder-weasel, Fidget, is set for TV fame tonight.

    He's the star of the BBC's Super Small Animals, a documentary on BBC 1 at 20:00 about the super powers of the world’s smallest animals.

    Fidget belongs to Yorkshire wildlife artist, Robert E Fuller, who discovered the abandoned four-week-old weasel in York.

    Robert set up a series of runs and mazes for him at his artists studio in Thixendale in the Yorkshire Wolds - a weasel on an easel!

    Police have imposed restrictions on a flat in Cudworth, near Barnsley, after ongoing anti-social behaviour problems.

    It means only the person living there and Barnsley Council officers will be allowed into the property which is on Crown Avenue.

    Anyone who goes into the flat without permission could face jail.

    Barnsley Council and South Yorkshire Police say they believe the action will reduce problems caused by anti-social behaviour.

  11. Bradford Family Film Festival draws huge crowdspublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 9 August 2017

    Hundreds of children gathered in Bradford City Park this morning to watch a screening of Disney's Moana.

    It’s part of the Bradford Family Film Festival which runs throughout August, with free films shown in City Park every Wednesday.

    The festival, which is in its second year, is also set to screen films in the Imax cinema in the National Science and Media Museum.

    According to the organisers, last week they had 170 people who stayed in the rain to watch the BFG. Not too shabby!

  12. Injured Doncaster soldier Ben Parkinson launches review of his carepublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 9 August 2017

    A paratrooper who survived some of the the worst-ever battlefield injuries has asked lawyers to investigate concerns over his care.

    Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson lost both legs and suffered more than 40 injuries in a landmine blast in Afghanistan in 2006.

    The 31-year-old from Doncaster and his mother are now calling on his care providers for more help.

    NHS England said it was working to arrange reviews of his care.

    Lawyers claim his care providers are in breach of the Armed Forces Covenant.

    They took the car on Wrose Place, in Bradford, after officers spotted the car had no insurance.

    But, to make matters worse for the driver, they tried to get away from the police.

    The driver has been reported to the Magistrates' Court.

    The trust in charge of repairing Wentworth Woodhouse near Rotherham says it could "take decades" to fully restore.

    It comes on the day the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust announces a partnership with the National Trust to help with the repair bill which is now expected to top £100m.

    Dating back to the 18th century, the front of the house is more than 600ft long.

    The house features the spectacular, double-height Marble Salon which is considered to be one of the finest early 18th century interiors in England.

    A 23-year-old woman fell 80ft down a wooded gully in North Yorkshire after the tractor she was driving overturned and rolled down a hillside.

    The incident happened yesterday afternoon at Leighton Hall, near Masham, in the Yorkshire Dales, as the farmer was was spreading slurry.

    Four ambulance crews and a team from Swaledale Mountain Rescue attended the incident.

    The Mountain Rescue team assisted paramedics to enable the air ambulance to lift the casualty - whose back had been injured in the incident - to hospital.
