The 20-year-old was left with minor injuries to his face and was also stabbed in the back.

It happened while he was walking through Lazarus Court at about 02:15 on Sunday.

Detectives are currently investigating and waiting for tests to confirm what the substance was.

  2. Spital Hill shooting, six weeks onpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 9 August 2017

    Charlotte Rose
    Political reporter, BBC Radio Sheffield

It's six weeks since South Yorkshire Police set up a dedicated unit of police officers to patrol an area of Sheffield after a shooting and two stabbings in the space of a week.

    Spital Hill

Walking round the shops and restaurants on Spital Hill and Ellesmere Road, lots of business owners told me they had seen an improvement.

They say trade went down sharply in the week following the shooting because people were too scared to come out.

Now they say the area is calmer, because police officers have been breaking up people hanging around in large groups, and using stop and search powers to look for weapons and drugs.

But one shopkeeper tells me that drug dealing is still a problem and that it is just being pushed from one place to another.

It seems this is only the start of the solution.

  3. 'Zero tolerance' to swearing and urinating Scarborough fanspublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 9 August 2017

Scarborough Football Club's new Flamingo Land Stadium has only been open a matter of weeks, but already the club's getting complaints about behaviour in the new stands.

The club says it's been receiving emails from fans saying they won't bring their children to games again due to the foul language used by some supporters.

There've also been reports of fans relieving themselves in people's gardens ahead of the game against Leeds United.

The club says anyone found urinating where they shouldn't be will be banned, and it says it will start taking a "zero tolerance approach" to swearing in the stands.

Officers say they have been investigating reports of a quad bike being driven along the pavement on Barnsley Road between 21:00 and 21:30 on 21 July.

Sgt Dave Lockwood, from West Yorkshire Police, said: "We are fully aware of the disruption anti-social riding on off-road bikes has been causing in communities in the south east of the district."

  6. Forbidden folly: North Yorkshire 'castle' faces demolitionpublished at 09:57 British Summer Time 9 August 2017

One of North Yorkshire's best-loved tourist attractions has been told it's going to have to demolish a castle it's built at the site because it hasn't got planning permission.

Forbidden Corner, near Leyburn, has been told by the Yorkshire Dales Park Authority that an Enforcement Notice will be given soon.

It's after the attraction built a new 10m high castle to add to its collection of follies.

The Park Authority says once served, the notice means the castle will have to be torn down within three months.

Robert Heseltine, from the authority, says: "The Forbidden Corner is a very welcome success story, which makes a significant positive contribution to the local economy.

"But it cannot be right to build a large castle folly, visible for miles around, in an historic and culturally important landscape, without even bothering to seek planning permission."

The trust has agreed to help the Preservation Trust, who bought the house for £7m earlier this year.

Together they hope to restore the Grade I-listed building and turn it into a huge visitor attraction.

Built by the Marquesses of Rockingham between 1725 and 1750, the front of the house is more than 600 feet long.

The main house has more than 200 rooms, with a run of state rooms behind the east front centring on the spectacular, double-height Marble Salon - considered to be one of the finest early-18th century interiors in England.

  17. Concern over new housing targets in Yorkpublished at 07:22 British Summer Time 9 August 2017

There are claims that plans to build 867 homes each year in York will fail to meet the city's housing needs.

    New housesImage source, PA

Each area has to have a plan which sets out how many new homes need to be built and where they should go, but Labour councillors say York's Local Plan is "unsound".

Last month, City of York Council officials decided not to add extra houses to the Local Plan despite a recommendation to that effect by external consultants.

The authority's Lib Dem deputy leader says they're confident the plan will deliver the housing York needs.
