    A scheme's been launched in Scarborough to tackle anti-social behaviour.

    Operation Culture aims to improve the quality of life for both residents and visitors.

    Among the behaviour being targeted is street drinking, the use of psychoactive substances, and people who relieve themselves in public.

    As a result there'll be more police officers present in the town, to deter those causing disruption.

    Cabinet minister Sajid Javid has called for an "honest open debate" about child abuse after Rotherham MP Sarah Champion quit her role on the Labour front bench over an article on the issue.

    Ms Champion resigned from her role as shadow equalities minister and apologised for her "extremely poor choice of words" after an article she wrote in the Sun caused widespread controversy.

    Her decision to step down has been questioned by Mr Javid, who claimed on twitter, external that she had been forced out by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

    Yorkshire and Humber UKIP MEP Jane Collins also voiced her opinion.

    She told TalkRadio that she believed Labour had not "learned its lesson about looking after its constituents rather than looking after its vote."

    The MEP, who has to pay Sarah Champion and two of her Rotherham Labour colleagues £358,000 in damages after being sued for libel following comments about child abuse in the town, is currently standing to be leader of UKIP.

    More of Yorkshire's restaurants have made it into the pages of the Good Food Guide.

    A restaurant in Leeds is in the guide's top fifty for the first time.

    The Man Behind The Curtain, which has a Michelin star, is number fifty on the list.

    Nine Yorkshire venues are making their debut, including Vice and Virtue in Leeds and Epicure Bar & Kitchen in Huddersfield.

    The Good Food Guide was first published in 1951 listing “600 places throughout Britain where you can rely on a good meal at a reasonable price”.

    It now lists 1,235 entries based on anonymous inspections.

    Police investigating a series of Sheffield supermarket robberies have released a CCTV image of a man they'd like to speak to.

    Two of the robberies were at Sainsbury's on Mortimer Street on the 24 July and 12 August.

    A third was at the Co-op on Gleadless Road on 13 August, while the last one took place last night at Tesco Express on Sharrow Lane.

    A man from The Shutt, Horbury, Wakefield has been sentenced to more than ten years behind bars after admitting raping and assaulting a woman.

    Lennox Selby, 25, was sentenced to ten and a half years at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty on the first day of his trial.

    Selby admitted an offence of rape, sexual assault and common assault against a female victim, which all took place earlier this year.

    Following the sentencing, West Yorkshire Police said they're "pleased with the substantial custodial sentence" given to Selby which "reflects the seriousness of his offending".

    A Spitfire fly-past will still go ahead at the Castle Howard Proms this Saturday night.

    It had been in doubt, after engine issues grounded most of the historic aircraft which make up the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

    Organisers say the fly-past is subject to weather conditions - as it usually would be - but Saturday's forecast is good.

    The family of Irfan Wahid have been paid tribute to him, after a 17-year-old boy was today convicted of his manslaughter.

    Irfan, 16, was stabbed chest during a fight in the Harehills area of Leeds in February.

    The defendant was cleared of murder at Leeds Crown Court, but will be sentenced for the killing in September.

    All lanes have re-opened after this car, which had overturned, was recovered.

    The display design for the Civic Hall at Leeds Light Night will be inspired by the city's spirit, history and heritage.

    The event, now in its 13th year, illuminates some of the most recognisable locations in the city and will also feature as part of the city's bid to be named European Capital of Culture in 2023, external.

    "Out of the Aire" will feature local figures including Pablo Fanque - Britain’s first black circus owner, who is buried in Leeds alongside his wife.

    The display will also feature the cycling legend Beryl Burton.

    We're hearing heavy traffic is building on the Sheffield parkway (A630) eastbound.

    One lane is blocked - with a car believed to be overturned - between Europa Line and the M1 junction 33.

    A North Yorkshire farm shop and cafe's been allowed to reopen, after being ordered to close because of poor hygiene.

    Environmental Health Officers found health-risk conditions at Langthornes Buffalo Produce at Brompton, near Northallerton, during an inspection last week.

    Hambleton Council says the owners have now completed all the necessary improvements and removed the health risks.

    They say they'll continue to monitor the business.

    Thirty companies in Yorkshire have been named and shamed for not paying the minimum wage.

    The firms will have to pay out a total of more than £37,000.

    They include Laugh and Learn Day Nursery in Heckmondwike - which owes more than £2,000 to two workers and UK Advanced Medical in Batley, which owes one person almost £900.

    In North Yorkshire, North Cowton Service Station, near Northallerton, underpaid three workers by over £8,000.

    Despite the government's apparent success in cracking down on pay, it is thought that hundreds of thousands of workers are still not getting their legal entitlement.

    The TUC said the problem was still far from being solved.

    "We know there are more wage-dodging employers out there," said Frances O'Grady, the TUC's General Secretary.

    People are routinely having to wait more than two years to see a dentist on the NHS in York.

    That's the claim from Healthwatch in York, which has launched an investigation into waiting lists in the city.

    It says children as young as five are having to go to hospital for dental work because they can't get to see a dentist.
