    BBC Radio Sheffield reported this morning that the protracted transfer saga revolving around Andy Yiadom is at an end.

    The 25-year-old was left out of the Reds squad at the weekend, with a move to Premier League Huddersfield Town seemingly imminent, but talks between the two Yorkshire clubs have broken down and the Ghana international is now set to stay at Oakwell.

    While all of that was going on, Barnsley have also moved to bring in competition for Yiadom, by signing another right-back in 22-year-old Dimitri Cavaré.

    They will have had a good look at the player in pre-season, too, when the Frenchman played AGAINST Barnsley, while on trial with: Huddersfield Town.

    A 17-year-old boy has been convicted of the manslaughter of another teenage boy in Leeds.

    Irfan Wahid, 16, died in hospital after being stabbed in a street fight in Harehills Lane, on 10 February.

    The 17-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, had denied murder and manslaughter.

    A jury at Leeds Crown Court cleared him of murder but found him guilty of manslaughter following a two-week trial.

    He will be sentenced on 15 September.

    A 17-year-old has been found guilty of the manslaughter of Leeds teenager Irfan Wahid.

    The defendant was found not guilty of his murder.

    He will be sentenced next month.

    Almondbury’s police box has been restored to its former glory and has been reinstalled in its rightful position after four months of restoration.

    The Grade II listed police box was removed from the village, near Huddersfield, in April so that it could undergo full refurbishment, before being officially unveiled on Tuesday.

    Police boxes were created to be used by officers on the beat to report to headquarters; but they were also used by the public to call for assistance in an emergency.

    Kirklees District Commander Steve Cotter, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to restore this iconic police box in Kirklees to its former glory - the community in Almondbury care a great deal about the police box and now its back where it’s meant to be."

  5. Man hit by horsebox in 'serious condition'published at 11:08 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    A man is seriously ill in hospital after being hit by a horsebox as he was walking along a grass verge near Whitby.

    It happened on the A171 Guisborough Road, near the junction with Newholm at about 15:25 yesterday afternoon.

    The 56-year-old suffered arm and head injuries and was taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he is in "serious but stable condition."

    Police are appealing for witnesses as well as any dashcam footage of the collision.

    A family from West Yorkshire have described how they were refused access to an airport lounge because they were wearing Minnie Mouse T-shirts.

    They were on their way to Disney World in the United States for a family holiday.

    Emma Raikes and her six relatives - all from the Leeds and Wakefield area - were stopped by a member of staff as they tried to get into the Aspire lounge at Manchester Airport, which they'd already paid for.

    They were told their personalised Disney t-shirts didn't meet the requirements of the dress code but they'd be allowed in if they buttoned up their cardigans and jackets.

    Swissport - which runs the facility - has apologised and said they will re-educate staff on the rules to make sure it doesn't happen again.

    Where might you imagine the most unusual spot for a windmill in Yorkshire might be?

    I'd be surprised if your first guess was sitting atop a roundabout in the middle of an urban housing estate.

    But that's exactly where York's 18th-century Holgate Windmill is.

    It's a fully restored and working 18th-century corn mill which produces stone-ground wholemeal flour for sale.

    Pontefract Road in Barnsley has re-opened after being closed for several days.

    A burst water main led to the road being shut to allow repairs to be carried out.

    The competition isn't taking place at Hogwarts though, it's in Hull and no flying is involved.

    There are broomsticks though, but they're carried rather than ridden on.

    Flood warning systems across West Yorkshire have been improved says the Environment Agency.

    The agency says it'll now provide more accurate alerts for communities in Leeds, so they can prepare for flash-flooding.

    In Kirkstall, £1m has been invested in Airedale House, a building badly damaged by the Boxing Day deluge and flooding in 2015.

    It's a family business run by Simon and Adam Duffield.

    Planners will decide later whether to give approval to an asphalt plant just outside York.

    Hundreds of objections have been made to the planned site at Hessay.

    The company behind the scheme says it has worked to address their concerns.

    Officers are recommending it's approved by councillors tonight.

    A new app to help give severely disabled children the chance to communicate is being developed in South Yorkshire.

    VocaTempo uses voice recognition technology to translate sounds made by the user into words.

    The development gives a voice to children with Dysarthria, a condition making speech is difficult to understand.

    With the new app children can, with assistance, train the app to recognise the way they speak.

    The advance is a collaboration between the university of Sheffield, Barnsley Hospital and developers Therapy Box.

    The team are now applying for extra funding from the NHS to take the idea worldwide.

    An investigation's been launched into the length of time it takes to get an appointment with an NHS dentist in York.

    It's amid concerns children as young as five are having to go to hospitals for dental treatment.

    Figures from Public Health England show the city is one of the worst areas in Yorkshire when it comes to getting an appointment.

    Now Healthwatch York is trying to find out just how bad it is.

    Amy in York has been on NHS dentist waiting lists for the past year and a half.

    On the day students in our region get their A-level results we're being told children from "poor households" in Barnsley are the least likely to to go to university in England.

    Government figures show in Barnsley, external only nine per cent of children on free school meals go to university and some politicians are warning the poorest children are being left behind.

    There are claims Drax power station near Selby's producing dangerous levels of air pollution.

    Campaign group Biofuelwatch say emissions of dust particles have more than doubled since the power station switched from burning coal to wood pellets.

    The group says it's "appalling" that Selby Council doesn't monitor the dust particles which it claims are linked to cancer, heart and brain disease.

    They say the particulates released each year by the power station are equivalent to adding three million diesel cars to the roads.

    Drax says its emissions are in line with guidelines set out by the government.

    A West Yorkshire MP says he'll write to the government unless there's a major rethink over plans to build thousands more homes in Calderdale.

    The council's asking for people's views on the proposals to build almost 20,000 new homes over the next 15 years.

    In Brighouse alone there are plans to build 6,000.

    Conservative Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker's holding a public meeting there tonight.

    Thousands of students across Yorkshire are waiting to find out their A-level results this morning.

    For some they'll be hoping to get the grades to secure a place at university.

    It's the first time for almost 20 years that AS levels haven't counted towards the final grade in some subjects.

    Students now sit all their exams at the end of two years of study, instead of taking modules during the course.

    A drop in applications for university this year is expected to mean a "buyer's market" with more options available for those looking for places.

    A leading geology expert has suggested the government needs a "Plan B" to fracking to meet future energy needs .

    Professor John Underhill, from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh,says the UK's rock formations are unlikely to hold large supplies of shale gas.

    An energy company has submitted its final plans to start fracking for shale gas in North Yorkshire.

    Third Energy was granted planning permission for the site at Kirby Misperton, between Malton and Pickering in May 2016.

    The Hydraulic Fracture Plan (HFP) will be considered by the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) and the Environment Agency.

    Protesters have vowed to resist the plans despite losing a legal challenge.
