Only four of the Wakefield City Academies Trust schools are rated as good or outstanding by Ofsted.

Yorkshire and Middlesex are forced to settle for a draw after four rain-affected days in their County Championship match.

Drivers are being warned that the famously (or should that be infamously?) steep road up Sutton Bank in North Yorkshire is to be closed to traffic for a week from Monday.

It's due to "essential maintenance" on the 1-in-4 (25%) gradient A170 between Helmsley and Thirsk.

Osgoodby Lane, south of the A170, will also be closed during the same period, according to North Yorkshire County Council, external.

Don Mackenzie, from the council, says: "Every effort will be made to ensure the work is completed as soon as possible and that any disruption is kept to a minimum."

This weekend, it's all about bowling in Barnsley.

The Metrodome is hosting the Weber Cup, external, one of the biggest events in bowling.

It's Europe v America and features the best bowlers from both sides of the Atlantic.

Detectives investigating a violent burglary in a Leeds village in July are continuing to appeal for help to identify a man caught on CCTV at the scene.

The victims, a man and woman in their 60s, were asleep at their home in Bardsey when a group of men smashed their way into the property shortly after 23:00 on Monday 31 July.

The couple were assaulted and forced to hand over a quantity of high-value jewellery before the robbers fled the scene.

The male victim suffered significant facial injuries that required hospital treatment.

Officers investigating the incident have made a number of arrests.

Det Sgt Ciaran Burns says: "We are still very keen to identify the man shown in the CCTV images and would like to hear from anyone who recognises him or who has any information that could assist the investigation."

He's described as white, about 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, aged in his mid-20s and of stocky build. He had dark stubble on his face and dark eyes.

The A66 has finally reopened after earlier problems on the stretch from Brough to Scotch Corner.

A lorry had shed its load near West Layton, with a 67-tonne digger becoming wedged on a trailer.

A toe-tapping attempt by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Everly Pregnant Brothers to top the 2016 Christmas charts has won two national awards.

Their song Chip Pan was used as part of a campaign to cut house fires over the Christmas period, external and was set to the Kings of Leon song Sex on Fire.

The song has won the Best Low Budget Campaign and Best Integrated Campaign gongs at the Public Sector Communication Awards.

A West Yorkshire-based education trust is to pull out of the 21 schools it operates.

Wakefield City Academies Trust (WCAT) said it was unable to "facilitate the rapid improvement our academies need, and our students deserve".

Only four of the schools are rated as Good or Outstanding by Ofsted.

Eleven out of 14 primary schools and six of the seven secondary schools were performing below the national average in 2016.

In a statement, WCAT said: "The Board recognises this announcement will cause uncertainty, particularly for our staff. It will work with them to ensure the transition to new sponsors is as seamless as possible.

"Our students' best interests, as ever, remain our focus and they and parents should be reassured that this decision will have a positive impact on education provision."

The Department for Education (DfE) said it will work with the trust until a new sponsor could be found.

A 95-year-old former paratrooper from North Yorkshire is preparing to make two free-fall jumps for charity.

John Jeffries, from Richmond, is due to make one charity jump in this country before heading to Holland to recreate a jump he made 73 years ago during World War Two.

Mr Jeffries was shot and captured as the British tried to seize the bridge at Arnhem in a bid to prise open an invasion route into Germany.

He says he's really looking forward to the jump:

Police have repeated an appeal for sightings of a man missing from his home in Penrith since the middle of August, who may be in the Doncaster area.

Officers say they're concerned for the welfare of 60-year-old Michael Gorman,who has connections in Yorkshire, and they'd like to hear from anyone who's seen him, or Mr Gorman himself.

Yorkshire-based menswear and formal hire firm Greenwoods, which has gone into administration, could be put up for sale, it's been revealed.

It's one option being considered by administrators Deloitte, who are considering the future of the firm which will continue to trade for the immediate future.

The company, which has its headquarters in Bradford, has 63 shops across the UK, including in Harrogate and Selby, and employs about 318 people.

Adrian Berry, from Deloitte says: "No redundancies are being announced at this stage and we are grateful to the employees for their support at this difficult time.

"This is a challenging time for the UK retail sector, which has affected the company, Mr Berry adds.

Do you know this man? Police would like to speak to him, external after a 20-year-old was punched in the side of the head at Kooky on Silver Street.

The incident happened at about 03:00 on Sunday 23 July and left the victim with a fractured cheekbone and cuts to his face.

PC Tina Darby says: "While I realise this incident happened a while ago, I'd like to appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image to contact us.

"We believe he may have important information about what happened which could assist with our investigation."

Staff at Scarborough's Sea Life Centre are appealing for people to donate their old or unused towels to help poorly seals.

The animal care team want to use them while treating rescued seal pups.

The centre saves up to 40 grey and common seal pups every year.

Staff there say the towels go "a long way towards helping us to rescue, rehabilitate and release wild seal pups":

Traffic's queuing over several miles in both directions on the A66 after a lorry shed its load near West Layton, at the eastern end of the stretch from Brough to Scotch Corner.

Police say a 67-tonne digger has become wedged on a trailer, which will have to be dismantled to free the load.

There's no indication of when the road is likely to reopen.

Fire crews at the scene of a blaze in Armley, Leeds, say they have they now brought it under control.

Ten crews are currently on scene at the former bingo hall on Theaker Lane, which went up in flames about 13:00 today.

Ten engines and about 25 firefighters are involved in tackling the fire on Theaker Lane.

The busy A647 Stanningley Road is currently closed and drivers are being warned to avoid the area.

Bus services which usually run through the area are also being affected:
