    The Church of England failed to anticipate the opposition to appointing a bishop who would not ordain women priests, a report has found.

    The Right Reverend Philip North turned down the post of Bishop of Sheffield in March for what were described as personal reasons following objections to his stance.

    Sir Philip Mawer's report said the nomination was "a surprise to many".

    The Archbishops of Canterbury and York said his review, external was "detailed, thoughtful and authoritative".

    Here's a picture of the scene on the M62 westbound where a minibus, lorry and a van have crashed.

    Two lanes are still closed while traffic officers move the cars from the site of the crash between J23 and J22.

    There is an almost 11-mile queue with delays of about two-and-a-half hours

    There are severe delays on the M62 this afternoon after an accident involving a lorry, minibus and van.

    Two lanes are closed and there is queuing traffic due to the accident on M62 Westbound between J23 A640 / A643 (Huddersfield) and J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor), congestion to J25 A644 (Brighouse).

    Delays are estimated at around 90 minutes.

    The body of a man has been found on the street in Leeds.

    The discovery was made just before 09:20 this morning on Royal Park Avenue in Hyde Park.

    The man was pronounced dead at the scene and a cordon has been put in place.

    Police say they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

    A teenager has been locked up for 10 years for the manslaughter of Irfan Wahid, who was stabbed to death in February.

    Irfan, 16, died from a single stab wound to the chest after a fight over a girl in Harehills Lane in Leeds on 10 February.

    During the trial, the jury heard Irfan had punched the other boy to the ground - because he'd spotted him with the girl.

    The 17-year-old - who can't be identified because of his age - then swung a knife which he said he carried to defend himself.

    He said he hadn't meant to kill Irfan.

    The air ambulance has been called to an accident where a vehicle has overturned on the A1 in Yorkshire.

    The A1 southbound between the junction with the M62 and the A639 is affected with about 11 miles of queuing traffic.

    The incident is expected to be dealt with by the emergency services between 14.14 and 14:30 with traffic expected back to normal later in the afternoon.

    There no more details on the incident at the moment.

    A 17-year-old youth has been detained for 10 years over the manslaughter of Irfan Wahid, who died after a street stabbing in Leeds in February.

  9. Ex-footballer Clarke Carlisle 'missing' from Manchesterpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    The family of former Leeds United and York City footballer Clarke Carlisle have said they are concerned for his welfare after being unable to contact him.

    His wife Carrie tweeted, external he was last seen in Manchester city centre at 06:00 BST.

    Carlisle, who has previously spoken of his mental health issues, spent six weeks in a psychiatric unit in 2015 after he was hit by a lorry.

    The 37-year-old has played for Burnley, Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United.

    The company behind plans to frack in North Yorkshire says it still hasn't set a date to start drilling.

    Third Energy says it wants to start work before the end of the year at it's site in Kirby Misperton.

    It insists the process of drilling for shale gas is safe.

    There have been protests outside the site in Ryedale with demonstrators trying to stop vehicles getting to the site.

    Peter Allen is from Frack Free Ryedale and can see the site from his home.

  11. Police want these men after woman threatened with 'machete and a knife'published at 12:15 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    Do you know these men? Police in Barnsley want to talk to them after an armed robbery at a woman's house.

    Police have released the CCTV images after the robbery on Victoria Street in Stairfoot, in which two men used a machete and a knife to threaten the woman in her own home.

    They left the house with a brown purse, cash and car key.

    The robbery happened back in June, but after "extensive inquiries" officers are still trying to find out who the people in the picture above are.

    Fracking has been the discussion on BBC Radio York's mid morning programme. We've heard from those who are against it and Third Energy the company behind it.

    There's still a way to go before the process will start. Vehicles started moving into the Kirby Misperton site earlier this week and were faced with protestors.

    There's a lot of opposition to the process. Protestors have already said they'll be outside the plant day and night.

    Operations Director, John Dewar, has been defending what they're planning to do.

  15. Giant lamps to line Briggate in Leedspublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    These 12ft high lamps will be installed on Leeds' main shopping street - Briggate - for the city's annual Light Night event.

    They've been made by French artists and will be in place for this year's event on the 5 and 6 October.

    This year’s Light Night Leeds will see more than 60 arts events and celebrates the people of Leeds, with other highlights including an illuminated parade from Leeds West Indian Carnival and a light maze at Granary Wharf.

    About 80,000 people are expected to come to the city to see the art installations.

    Christian charities are being given police grants worth £30,000 to join the fight against crime in North Yorkshire.

    Ten of our region's charities are sharing the money. North Yorkshire Police say their work could cut crime and the number of emergency calls the force gets.

    This woman suffered domestic violence, she was helped by a church charity in York.

    Two portraits that had been in a North Yorkshire stately home for 150 years have been reunited after being apart since the 1980s.

    The paintings of a 17th century painter and his wife were displayed together at Howsham Hall from 1791 until they were sold in 1948.

    Artist William Dobson painted "forceful" images of himself and his second wife Judith as companion works in the 1630s.

    The paintings were last on public view together in the National Portrait Gallery's William Dobson exhibition in 1984.

    Tate Britain bought one and the other was sold to a private collector.

    The private owner is now loaning their painting to the Tate on a three-year deal.

    The Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman says he'll keep a close eye on what happens inside Kirklees Council after it was ordered to take drastic action over its troubled Children's Services department.

    The government's told the council to make a deal with Leeds City Council so the two authorities can work together on fixing a series of failings, meaning it's been labelled "inadequate".

    Barry Sheerman MP believes that Kirklees is determined to get things right.

    A 47-year-old man has been taken to hospital this morning after a collision between a 4x4 and a motorbike in Slaithwaite near Huddersfield.

    It happened at 08:50 on Manchester Road, luckily a nurse who was passing in her car was the first on the scene and was able to help the injured biker.

    The accident caused delays towards the end of the morning rush hour on Manchester Road, Varley Road and Ned Lane.

    Traffic is now beginning to clear in the area.

    A man from Wakefield has gone missing in the early hours of this morning - have you seen him?

    James Lamb, 25, was last seen walking along Aberford Road towards the city centre at 01:20 this morning.

    He was wearing a black beanie hat, a black anorak, dark trousers and trainers and police say he appeared to be dragging his leg slightly.
