    If you're travelling out of York station there's quite a few delays on services to London, Edinburgh and Reading.

    And if you're travelling on the East Coast mainline between Yorkshire, London and Scotland expect the trains to be busier than normal as there are major problems on the west coast mainline following a fire which has blocked the line between Euston and Milton Keynes.

    His name is Billy Beane and Brad Pitt played his character in the movie 'Moneyball'. He's a baseball executive in the United States.

    As Barnsley Football Club, external celebrates its 130th birthday this weekend, the businessman's involvement in a consortium looking to takeover at Oakwell is getting tongues wagging.

    Chinese businessman Chien Lee, who is majority shareholder at French club Nice is leading the consortium.

    Billy Beane and his fellow investors would pay £20 million for a 98.5% stake in the club, currently owned by Patrick Cryne.

    Mr Cryne is terminally ill with cancer.

    Barnsley's Dr Joann Fletcher was the face of the BBC TV series Immortal Egypt.

    The renowned Egyptologist is to appear in Barnsley this month as the town puts on three exhibitions about ancient Egypt.

    The council says Dr Fletcher has designed and guest-curated the exhibitions which feature "a selection of artefacts, paintings and photographs from the ancient land of Egypt that have never been brought together before".

    If you're planning a journey today around Yorkshire - here's the latest on the roads:

    Traffic heavier than normal on A643 Ingram Distributor inbound from M621 (Elland Road Roundabout) to A58 Wellington Road (Armley Gyratory). Travel time is seven minutes.

    Very slow traffic on A629 Huddersfield Road Northbound at A6026 Wakefield Road / B6112 Stainland Road. In the roadworks area.

    Very slow traffic on A61 Upper Hanover Street in both directions at A57 Brook Hill / A61 Netherthorpe Road / B6539 Brook Hill / Bolsover Street (Brook Hill Roundabout). In the roadworks area.

    And a reminder that in Wetherby the A661 Boston Road Southbound closed due to reconstruction of a collapsed wall between B1224 North Street and A58

    And the A170 in both directions closed due to roadworks between Sutton Bank (N) and Sutton Bank (S).

  9. Burberry chief reveals Brexit potential - but Yorkshire investment 'on hold'published at 08:16 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    Brexit and changes in the industry combined with changing consumer behaviour, have created uncertainty for Burberry, its chief creative officer has said.

    Christopher Bailey said this resulted in the suspension of a planned £50m investment in Leeds.

    Burberry already has two manufacturing sites in Yorkshire, where its trench coats are made, but shortly following the Brexit vote last year the company said they were putting on hold the decision over whether to continue with the new development.

    He said: "Since we made that decision and bought that land a lot of things have changed in the world and as any responsible organisation, when you have these big shifts you need to reflect," said Mr Bailey.

    "We are absolutely committed to keeping our manufacturing in this country with our factories in Yorkshire, but with the new site we're just taking a moment to make sure we understand the ramifications."

    Mr Bailey told BBC Radio 4 that he thought the potential of post- Brexit Britain was "enoromous".

  10. Academics uncover 30 words 'lost' from English languagepublished at 08:00 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    Snout-fair, dowsabel and percher are among 30 "lost" words which experts believe are still in current use.

    Researchers have drawn up the list to persuade people that these defunct words can still have a relevance.

    Snout-fair is a word for handsome, dowsabel means "lady-love", and a percher is a social climber.

    Dominic Watt, senior linguistics lecturer at the University of York, said he hoped people would re-engage with the language of old.

    Travellers from across Yorkshire are gathering for a big funeral today.

    They will be paying their respects to Eileen Lowther, who spent years campaigning to improve the lives of the travelling community.

    Hundreds of people are expected at the funeral, which is being held in Beeston, Leeds.

    A teenager who stabbed another boy to death in Leeds is due to be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court today.

    Irfan Wahid, who was 16 years old, died in Harehills in February.

    The teenager who will face a judge today cannot be identified for legal reasons.

    Commuters face at least five years of disruption when Sheffield station is expanded for HS2, a presentation by Network Rail says.

    According to the presentation by Network Rail, obtained by the BBC, there'll be disruption to rail passengers, drivers and tram passengers as roads and tracks are moved.

    The document also says an extra platform would be needed but HS2 disputes this saying no significant work is needed.

    Network Rail told the BBC that discussions are continuing about plans to upgrade the station.

    A couple from York say they feared for their lives as they were trapped by Hurricane Irma in Cuba.

    John Scrowston and Katy Scott had to leave what was meant to be a dream birthday trip to the Caribbean island.

    Katy told BBC Radio York about the moment they realised the storm was coming.

    Trains from stations across Yorkshire all appear to be on time this morning.

    This may not affect you but could be useful if you are due to meet anyone who is travelling along the West Coast main line.

    There's major disruption between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston until the end of service.

    Everything across Yorkshire is running on time.

    A reminder though that trains are not stopping on Northern at Rotherham Central due to engineering works.

    There's a replacement bus service running on Northern between Huddersfield and Penistone because of engineering works.
