  1. Watch: Fracking protesters block road at Kirby Mispertonpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

Protesters at a site in North Yorkshire earmarked for fracking have blocked a nearby road.

It's the latest in a series of anti-fracking protests at Kirby Misperton in Ryedale.

Yesterday, about 60 people demonstrated at the entrance to the Third Energy site as the first equipment required for fracking arrived.

Third Energy says the process is safe, but those against it say fracking will have a detrimental impact on the area.

  4. Time to remove extremist material on YouTube 'unacceptable' - MPpublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

A West Yorkshire MP says the amount of time it takes YouTube to remove extremist videos is "unacceptable".

    ComputerImage source, PA

An investigation found videos praising Adolf Hitler and the Taliban were still online, weeks after being reported.

Yvette Cooper, Labour MP For Normanton, Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley, ordered this investigation as head of the Home Affairs Select Committee.

Researchers flagged up more than 100 Islamic extremist videos to YouTube and 94 far-right videos.

But weeks later, 61 of the far-right videos and 60 of the Islamic extremist posts remained online for viewers to watch.

YouTube says it's using its "best talent and technology" to deal with content like this - and many are now removed without even being reported.

  6. Listen: Sheffield MP criticises 'staggering' row over devolution dealpublished at 09:45 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

A Sheffield MP says Barnsley and Doncaster 's councils are "deluded" over the idea of devolution for the whole of Yorkshire.

Earlier this week, the two councils' leaders voted against a deal which would see a directly-elected South Yorkshire mayor assume control of transport budgets and strategic planning and have access to £30m a year for 30 years.

Barnsley and Doncaster councils say they'd prefer to see a Yorkshire-wide deal - something Sheffield and Rotherham councils reject.

But Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts says the row between South Yorkshire's four councils is "staggering":

  7. Listen: Could trees be key to flood prevention in Leeds?published at 09:25 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

Proposals to plant hundreds of thousands of trees to help protect Leeds against flooding are due to be examined by city councillors.

Work to prevent a repeat of the Boxing Day floods in 2015 is already under way, including the construction of moveble weirs on the River Aire, external.

The next phase is expected to include creating more woodland areas in the river's catchment area.

Robin Green, who saw his hairdressers in Kirkstall devastated by flood water in 2015, says there isn't enough short-term planning being done:

  11. Watch: Cracked, hovering and leaning chimneys to dominate Sheffield skylinepublished at 08:16 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

Plans for a "family" of sculptural, red brick chimneys which will border, bridge and illuminate the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal are due to be unveiled this week.

    Tinsley

Almost 10 years ago, thousands of people turned out to see the demolition of the landmark Tinsley Towers - used by many travelling on the M1 as a sign they were well and truly back home in Yorkshire.

Now, artist Alex Chinneck has created Onwards and Upwards: several towering chimneys, each stretching up to 30m high which will be spread across one mile on the same site.

It's the largest ever art commission for Sheffield and full details are expected to be revealed tomorrow, but here's a film giving a taster of what the city's newest chimneys will look like:

The installation includes a cracked chimney broken into 250 pieces, illuminated from within; a hovering chimney with an upper section that appears to float; two leaning chimneys, standing 45m apart and a curving chimney made of over 25,000 bricks and tied into a knot.

    Quote Message

Through a process of sculptural re-imagination we have attempted to create a regionally relevant and nationally significant cultural attraction. "

  12. Listen: Further protests expected at Yorkshire fracking sitepublished at 08:04 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

Further protests are expected today outside a site in North Yorkshire where fracking is due to get under way by the end of the year.

Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at rock to release the gas inside.

Opponents say it can cause water contamination, earthquakes and noise and traffic pollution.

Two demonstrators were arrested yesterday as the first lorries carrying equipment needed for fracking drove onto the site at Kirby Misperton in Ryedale.

Both those arrested have now been released without charge, police confirm.

Third Energy, the company behind the Kirby Misperton site, insists the process of drilling for shale gas is safe.

Shaun Zablocki, one of the managers at the site, says the area will benefit from the work being done:
