    They have been around for hundreds of years but now Yorkshire puddings have found themselves thrust into the culinary spotlight.

    This week a BBC video about a Yorkshire pudding wrap was viewed more than 12m times online, making the dish and how to eat it a real talking point.

    It's polarised opinion, with some saying it's food heaven and others claiming it is sacrilege and food hell.

    But what's behind the revival of this humble recipe?

    There's concern for the safety of David Cartwright who's been missing from his home, external since 13 September.

    David, who's 34 and has some health issues was last seen at his home in Hull.

    It's thought he has some family in the Leeds area.

    Police are asking for anyone who may know where David is or have seen him to call them on the 101 number.

    An order for 114 buses to be sent to New Zealand has been won by a company in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

    Police say they're trying to track him down after a string of burglary offences in the Dewsbury and Bradford areas.

    Zain Jamil Khan, 30, is from Bradford and has links to the Birkby area of Huddersfield.

    Detective Inspector, Mark Catney from West Yorkshire Police, said: "Officers have been conducting a number of enquiries and I would like to speak to anyone who has seen Zain Khan recently.

  7. Hunt for three men wanted over armed robbery of Leeds pubpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Police investigating an armed robbery at a Leeds pub - where staff had a machete held to their throats - have released CCTV images of three men they want to speak to.

    The robbery happened in July, but officers have refreshed their bid to try to catch them by releasing these pictures today.

    The men burst through the rear entrance doors of The Three Hulats pub on Harrogate Road in Chapel Allerton, as staff were closing up and threatened them with a machete.

    It was held to the throat of a woman who works there and the robbers demanded money from the safe, which couldn't be opened, so they took money from the tills instead.

    The annual two-day event brings in light installations into the city which are often spectacular - transforming eveyday places around the city into something a little more special.

    This year one of the main attractions will be a "full moon" which will float above Leeds Dock and is made of detailed images captured during a NASA space mission.

    It's entitled Museum of the Moon, and will be accompanied by a "dramatic musical composition" - Light Night is on 5 and 6 October.

  10. Army instructors deny physical abuse at training camppublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Six Army instructors have appeared in court to deny physically abusing recruits during a training camp.

    Recruits from the Army Foundation College, Harrogate, claim they were abused in Scotland in June 2014.

    The instructors face 24 charges including ill-treatment, battery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

    The six men denied the charges at a preliminary hearing at Bulford, Wiltshire. A court martial will take place in 2018 on a date to be fixed.

    A woman who was killed after a car hit her in the centre of Bradford has been named by police.

    Kathleen Farman, who was 54 and from the BD3 area of the city, suffered fatal injuries when a white Volkswagen Golf hit her on Leeds Road at about 13:50 on Wednesday.

    A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was later bailed pending further enquiries.

  12. Uber taxis to stay in Leeds for nowpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Commuters in London have been reacting to the news today that Uber will not be issued a new private hire licence, but here in Leeds the company looks set to stay - for now.

    Transport for London (TfL) concluded the ride-hailing app firm was not fit and proper to hold a London private hire operator licence.

    Leeds City Council said "We are aware of today's announcement and will continue to monitor developments. The safety and security issues raised by TfL are not applicable in Leeds."

    It added "Leeds City Council has raised its concern at the increase in numbers of 'out of district’ private hire vehicles licensed by other councils and licensing authorities."

    Uber in Leeds currently has around 900 licensed drivers and around 825 licensed vehicles - their contract with the council ends in November.

  13. Final warning for police officer who used sexist and offensive languagepublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    A South Yorkshire Police officer has received a final written warning following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

    It looked into claims the inspector repeatedly used discriminatory language to his colleagues. The allegations date back as far as 2015. During the investigation the IPCC investigator gathered statements from 29 police officers covering 19 different allegations.

    At a hearing which has now ended, the officer accepted twelve breaches, which included sexist, offensive and bullying comments.

    The panel concluded the conduct amounted to gross misconduct,

    Denisa Kotlorova,15, and Maria Tokorova,13, were reported missing on Monday morning.

    Detectives investigating the death of Aseel Al-Essaie, who was shot in the Walkley area of Sheffield in February, have charged a third man with murder.

    32 year-old Keil Bryan from Brackley Street in Pitsmoor is the latest to be charged..

    Razwan Mirza, 35, and Mohammed Mirza, 30, of Staniforth Road in Darnall, are both charged with assisting an offender.

    Aseel Al-Essaie was shot on the 18 February outside his home in Daniel Hill at Walkley.

  18. Listen: Police chief defends handling of North Yorkshire fracking protestspublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    The Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police has defended his force's handling of fracking protests taking place in the county.

    It follows accusations this week from protesters that officers have been heavy-handed with some of the demonstrators outside a site earmarked for fracking in Kirby Misperton in Ryedale.

    Speaking to BBC Radio York, Ch Con Dave Jones wouldn't say how much the operation is costing, but said having to police the protest "doesn't help" balance an already stretched budget.

    He added that his officers are doing all they can to minimise disruption to the local community, while respecting people who want to protest peacefully:

  19. Dewsbury shooting: Three men jailed over targeted car attackpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Three men have been jailed after a man was shot in the chest as he sat in a car during a targeted attack.

    The 24-year-old man was seriously injured when he was hit on Cemetery Road in Dewsbury on 1 February.

    At Leeds Crown Court, Owais Ashfaq, 18, of Gladstone Street, Bradford, was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

    Hasnain Khan, 18, of Carrington Street, Bradford, and Ahmed Mohammed, 18, of Bowling Green Lane, Manchester, were both jailed for 15 years.
